What WON'T you miss?

General discussions of the systemic, societal and civilisational effects of depletion.

Re: What WON'T you miss?

People being able to support the belief that 'stuff' (including occupations & hobbies) are more important than the close relationships in their lives.

When the rubber hits the road -- or stops hitting the road in this case -- a husband will again know that his most treasured 'thing' is his hard-working wife by his side .... and viceversa.

I like the "noise" answer. Absolutely.

I'm not going to miss the pacing of this current life. Life will slow down, the world will grow bigger.

I also won't miss the shallowness of youth culture (and I say this as someone who's still relatively young). Fashion, pop music, celebrity gossip.. buh-bye!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('DomusAlbion', '[')b]Commercial television. We've been without it for 3 years now and it's worked out just fine and we don't miss it.

Professional Sports. Let’s go back to amateur and semi-pro, have fun on the cheap sports of the late 19th, early 20th century. Hooterville vs Clancy Township at 11 AM, Saturday in the town baseball field.

Notorious People No more Brittany Spheres, Paris Hilton, Michael Jackson, Ludikris (sp) and other artificial, narcissistic human-shaped objects.

Loud and flashy automobiles No more to say here.

Noise After 3 years in the country you realize what a noisy world most people live in. Now it's the rooster in the morning, birds all day and the occasional coyote or wolf at night. Very peaceful.

It's Britney Spheres, not Brittany Spheres...

I can tune out most noise, but I agree with Narz about the leafblowers.

The din of traffic: on the ground and in the air.

Yes, the noise.

The constant noise coming from ICE transportation. Anyone living near other people hear this all day. The muffler sounds, the tire and wind noises, the loud radios... ICE transport makes a horrifying and constant noise that will be erased as the months and years march by.

I won't miss that at all either.

Video game systems - Lord I can not wait until those things are long forgotten.

6-12 month marriages. So many people have no idea that marriage is all about working together. "Working" should give them the idea that it will occasionally be difficult, and "together" is more than a suggestion that a marriage is not going to be all about the perfect happiness of one spouse or the other.

Adolescents who have never done a chore in their lives.

People who think happiness is found at the mega-mall.

Fast Food Restaurants

Reality television.[smilie=BangHead.gif]

The ridiculous " keeping up with the Jones' " mentality. Hopefully when folks are busy trying to feed their family, they won't worry so much about who has the newest SUV.

So much more.... but I'll give someone else a chance.

What I won't miss? The throw away society, off shoring jobs and most of all; the financial system being the biggest producer of "wealth."

That's a really good answer. :)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Narz', '
')I, for one, will not miss lawnmowers & leafblowers.

My 93 year old neighbor had to go to the hospital, she probably won't be back in her house. So her 70+ neighbor is mowing her lawn (75' x 110' or 30 m. x 40 m.) with his gas mower. He doesn't have a lot to do otherwise, in summer 2007 he said his camper trailer isn't going anywhere at these gasoline prices.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('mos6507', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('seldom_seen', ' ') We also have a lot of people who 'water' their pavement to get all the diesel soot off of it (since it never rains here). What a waste of resources.
That petro-slime builds up on the freeways. It does occasionally rain, then they become very slippery.
