$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ClassicSpiderman', 'T')he following are my top 3 favorite albums of all time. This is the music I would take with me to a deserted island and I would insist on listening to these before I was executed on death row.
1. JETHRO TULL -- A PASSION PLAY (1973)
The concept album of all concept albums, it's a story of heaven and hell. Pretentious? Yes, but it's damn good. Ian Anderson is probably the greatest lyricist in the history of rock music. Witness his wordplay with the English language:
"Well, I'm all for leaving and that being done,
I've put in a request to take up my turn
in that forsaken paradise that calls itself "Hell"
where no-one has nothing and nothing is well meaning fool,
pick up thy bed and rise up from your gloom smiling.
Give me your hate and do as the loving heathen do."2. TOM WAITS -- FRANK'S WILD YEARS (1987)
Waits is probably the closest thing to an American musical genius that the US has ever produced. This album is a story of crashing and burning and coming back to Earth. It helped me get through life's hard moments, especially during the terrible "buyer's remorse" I felt in the first few weeks of boot camp.
"Crest fallen sidekick in an old cafe
Never slept with a dream before he had to go away
Theres a bell in the tower, Uncle ray bought a round
Dont worry about the army in the cold cold ground"3. THE MOODY BLUES -- DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED (1967)
I only recently discovered this album -- since this band predates my actual birth by several years. As far as I'm concerned, it's the best collection of "elevator music" songs ever assembled. While that might sound like a backhanded compliment, it's not. I like that this album sounds great as a whole, in spite of the fact that it's anachronistic, corny and trapped in the time it was recorded.
"Balloons flying
Children sighing
What a day to go kite flying
Breeze is cool
Away from school
Cowboys fighting out a duel
Time seems to stand quite still
In a child's world, it always will"
Maybe you should search for "In search of the Lost Chord". By the Moody Blues.
