As part of my "get ready" list, I'm now doing one-hour bike rides each morning at 5:30. I'm 25 pounds too fluffy and I've decided that come what may, I *am* going to live to be an old woman and I'd better get this body in shape for a fuel-less society.
Sunday morning, I was riding my bike in another neighborhood and I saw a young, overweight black man (probably 75 pounds too heavy) getting out of the biggest SUV I've ever seen. I thought it was a Hummer, but when I got closer, I saw it was another brand.
He got out of the SUV and had two newspapers in each hand. He flung the papers on the front lawn of these typical suburban homes with their 100 by 150 foot lots and then went on to the next homes.
The guy was delivering NEWSPAPERS in an SUV, a NEW SUV. Yeesh. And watching this I thought, "It's a lot like eating celery. There's a negative net gain because it takes more energy to eat celery than it provides to the body."
I wish I'd had a camera. It was almost unbelievable.
