What happened to theoildrum.com?

For almost a week now I have been unable to access The Oil Drum web site. Does anyone know what happened to it?

Works fine for me too, Maybe you should clean the cookies and the temp files of your browser and try then.

They had posted this a few days ago

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'R')outing problems disrupting access to TOD [UPDATE 6/9 1:30p EDT]

Topic: Site news

Many readers have reported that they have not been able to access The Oil Drum since we moved to upgraded servers on June 1. So far, we have determined that access is blocked from the European ISPs BlueWin and UPC. There are also sporadic reports of blocked readers in the United States.

Readers can circumvent this problem for the time being by using proxy servers such as Pawxy or Anonymouse.

Thanks to all of the users who responded our requests for routing information. We have passed it on to our upstream internet provider who is working to solve the problem.

I don't think cleaning cookies or doing something that refers to a specific browser would cure the problem. I can't access theoildrum.com on IE, or on Firefox, or on Opera, and this is the first time I used Opera this month.

How do you use something like Pawxy or Anonymouse?

If they changed their name servers then, depending on where you are located geographically, it can take up to 48 hours for the new DNS information to propogate around the entire web.

I have Comcast "high"-speed Internet but get my email from Earthlink (Mindspring) using the Comcast connection. I just tried dialing up Mindspring and accessing theoildrum.com, and it came up, although slowly, as one would expect out of 45.2 bps.

It seems to me that Comcast is the problem then. What comcastic thing has Comcast done to its network and Internet connections to block access to theoildrum.com?

I used Comcast before and it can be easily fixed by going to control panel and opening "Network Connections." Right click on your local connection icon and select Repair. That will reset your network address and renew your DNS and everything should work fine after that.

There's a great article on the Oil Drum about how the decline of North Sea oil is causing this price rise.

I really like the Oil Drum. Just the facts. They are scary enough.

So far I had only tried accessing theoildrum.com on my desktop computer. I tried it with the laptop computer, after going through the repair procedure mentioned above. I still can't access it. That says that it is something within Comcast, or maybe Comcast in relation to the Oil Drum, that is causing the problem. There is no way the repair procedure can work since it pertains only to a single computer.

So I can't access it through my desktop using IE, Firefox, or Opera. I can't access it with IE on my laptop. I CAN access it by dialing up Earthlink on the telephone and using a modem connection. A lot of other people on this forum, including some using Comcast, can access it. To me it seems like it is a problem with the way that Comcast gets its packets from the Oil Drum.

I don't see why Comcast wants to prevent me from seeing just the facts about Peak Oil.
