No it has not, but there are signs that the boat is definitely sailing towards the iceberg.

When a litre of gas is $5.28 or a gallon is $19.96 and your food bill has gone up another 20% two more times then yes most likely events around you have already spiraled out of control. All the indirect happenings will have already happened. However this may have NOTHING to do with Peak Oil at all. We may be talking about economic turmoil or Peak Oil having an effect, both having the same effect at the same time, or something completely different. (natural disaster, mass terrorism, etc)

Right now, the way things are going are a little mix of peak oil awareness, economic turmoil, geopolitical waves, war, mad greed etc. As I stated in another post gas here is $1.32 CAD per litre and will probably be $1.42 per litre in 10 days, and no one seems to care.

I think Peak Oil will happen to each of us individually and will affect us individually. For some of us, and for some of the world, Peak Oil has already come even though it really hasn't for everyone at the same time yet.

A lot of those who profess to be PO aware, and that includes most on this site, behave like children on a car ride.
Sitting passively in the back seat, "Are we there yet? Are we there yet?"
It comes down to a decision for each of us, "We are there." There's no "event" to trigger this, no sign post with the miles-to-go on it, no one you trust is truly going to provide you the definitive clue that will put you "there".

I've worked from the assumption that "we were there" in 2006. No fanfare, no pat on the back, no big announcement; I just chose and started to make changes that solidified a direction I had been prepared for anyways.
After all, what harm is done if I increase my use of energy? How is it bad to use less energy? Why not stock up a bit more food?
Even if I'm wrong there is nothing I'm doing that is damaging my way of life or my pocket book. Hell, I'm ahead, and if nothing else there's no harm in having a hobby.

Now, I don't believe I'm wrong and bottom line I am acting responsibly.

Hasn't hit the fan yet, but it is traveling through the air at terminal velocity towards the fan. Be prepared for a big stinky mess to be splattered all over the walls in a few weeks.

Ah, Gas on credit cards, got to love it.........

??

I haven't paid cash for gasoline for a decade or two now. Just got my CC bill for $100 for gasoline last month!!!! THE INHUMANITY!!

But I'm confused as to why you appear to disapprove of using credit cards for gasoline?

I do not Disagree of purchasing gas on credit cards, I do the same...... I disagree with purchasing gas on a credit card and not being able to pay it off at the end of the month. Gas is not something that should be financed in my personal opinion. That is what I was saying.

I remember the first time I noticed you could buy groceries with a credit card. I thought that was somehow wrong. Necessities like that you really should be able to afford with cash otherwise you're just not managing your money properly.

As I suspected... oil backed off today about 3%. It's really interesting that the Saudis are saying demand/supply is not responsible for this mess, yet they don't seem to be able to up production. My guess is, tomorrow it drops again, then little change Wednesday, then a run up again to $142-145 by Friday. Water. Boil. Add frog.

Sorry folks, I gotta repeat my mantra;

This is the Doing Forum.

Talk about where and what and how to do things is what this forum is about.

We are going to increasingly stick to the four year-old policy at the top of the forum and move talky/iffy/when-to-do-something stuff elsewhere.

Bump up any post you find in the history pages though!

Thanks :)

This thread is not properly placed is it. To answer the OP, I think right now they are trying to through several fans at a big pile of manure. They need more fans.

Between the oil pricing, the scary state of the Middle East and the horrible weather killing people and destroying crops in the most important farm states this past two months, yes, it seems that in a broad context, the S has hit the fan.
