Does that work ? 8)

The last Robin chick from a nest under my grape vine left today. The last one hung out near the nest until just before sundown. Here's a picture from a few days ago

They were great. The mother built a very sturdy nest while I was working on the deck with power tools and the dogs would chase the squirrels away but the birds never flinched.

I'm thinking my dog probably had about a 50% success rate with that approach. Enough for him to keep trying, I guess!

By the way, that's a pretty good picture of those robins.

Cool pic dinopello.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('WildRose', 'O')ne day a coworker of mine came over for coffee, a 50-ish woman who really didn't like dogs, particularly large ones, and my dog sensed it. So what did he do? He climbed up on her lap and licked her face!

I tried that with a coworker who didn't like me, but she sued me for sexual harassment. Oh well, can't win them all....

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('RonMN', 'A')nytime I go into a petshop & birds are out of their cages...they mess with me.

They'll climb onto my shoulders & refuse to get off, while chewing holes in my T-shirt & sqwaking directly into my ears. I even had one who was determined to pilfer my pack of ciggies.

I don't know what it is, but birds really love to harass me.

Sooooo...what message are they trying to give me? :)

Magpies are known for pilfering shiny objects like jewelry. The English consider it a bad omen when a magpie flies overhead. They have a quaint little tradition to ward off the bad luck that they bring. When they see a magpie, the English doff their caps and say:

"Good morning/good afternoon Mr. Magpie. How are Mrs. Magpie and all the little mapgies?"

If we got into the metaphysics of birds, we could have a very long thread. As a species, our observation of and fascination with birds goes very far back, beyond even walking upright.

Dunewalker, that is a great story, not least because you took your cue. Do you wonder what would have happened if you hadn't?

In regards to PMS' experience this AM, here's a nice little quote.

I'm guessing he said that before the term "synchronicity" came along.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('DomusAlbion', 'I') had a similar experience last week, except it then swooped down and stole a chicken. I had to shoot it. It's the only way to discourage such behavior.

Indeed, if I had chickens I might not have been as thrilled. However, it's kinda unusual to see an eagle at maybe roof height in a small clearing, IME. Perhaps they are hunting more widely as the salmon disappear. :(

I love hummingbirds. I don't care if they eat bugs, I love them anyways.
