Govt Wants Less Mad Cow Testing

Unread postby Ferretlover » Wed 14 May 2008, 16:42:14

Friday, May. 09, 2008 By AP/SAM HANANEL
(WASHINGTON) — The Bush administration on Friday urged a federal appeals court to stop meatpackers from testing all their animals for mad cow disease, but a skeptical judge questioned whether the government has that authority. …
Less than 1 percent of slaughtered cows are currently tested for the disease under Agriculture Department guidelines. The agency argues that more widespread testing does not guarantee food safety and could result in a false positive that scares consumers.
"They want to create false assurances," Justice Department attorney Eric Flesig-Greene told a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. ...

As long as you properly radiate the meat before hand, there is nothing to worry about.

Nuke the meat for 2 minutes and then cook it medium done. No problems. The problem comes from people who don't cook the meat long enough.

Most problems that arise from meat consumtion, come from old people who are better off dead anyway

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Shannymara', 'P')rions are not inactivated or destroyed by cooking.

Then up the temperature. Everything is killed with enough heat.

*edit.

Actually I didn't know crap about prions so I just did some research. Crazy reading.

Anyway, I found a solution for your steak (lol)

The best way to kill prions is either to immerse steaks in a 1 percent sodium hydroxide for about 60 minutes and then autoclave for one hour at 121 degrees Centigrade, or immerse steaks in 5 percent sodium hydrochloride for one hour and then autoclave.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Shannymara', 'R')ight. So basically, we can just eat ashes and we're all good.

Or maybe eat cows that eat grass, instead of brains.

We (or at least our kids) will.

I don't know what he means either. Apparently, 'baby boomers' is the only class distinction that he knows.

If you can't farm, support those who do raise pastured animals, especially in your area. It's very important.

Pigs too?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'B')efore it closed, the Minnesota packinghouse slaughtered 1,900 pigs a day, working two meat-cutting shifts and one clean-up shift. Virtually every part of the pig was used, including ears, entrails, and bone. The 12 Quality Pork workers stricken with the neurological illness are mostly Hispanic immigrants and all work at or near the "head table" where the animals' severed heads are processed. One of the steps in the process involves removing the pigs' brains with compressed air forced into the skull through the spinal cord entrance. Brains are then packed and sent to markets in Korea and China as food.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('keehah', 'P')igs too?[/url]

That would be different - PSE instead of BSE: the B stands for bovine.

I guess it is time to boycott both meat and grain and don't forget E-Coli laced spinach and whatever they spray your May tomatoes with and you might as well throw in anything dairy (nasty conditions there for sure - just watch the vid of downer cows that were milked a day or two before) just to be safe.

Ah, I feel healthier now.
