Welcome.

Talking with the non-PO donkey shit eaters is mostly a waste of time.
Massive Human Dieoff must occur as a result of Peak Oil. Many more than half will die. It will occur everywhere, including where you live. If you fail to recognize this, then your odds of living move toward the "going to die" group.

Hey thump, we aren't all doomers, but Bambi doesn't show up much.

Welcome.

You should have taken the blue pill, it's easier.

Been here four years now, it's my home of sorts, but the whole PO thing unfolding in front of my eyes is depressing, overwhelming, and frightening at times.

Keep yourself busy doing other things too, aside from coming here.

The last bit is my best advice.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'S')o what you are saying Thumper is that people are starting to understand and accept PO. That should be considered somewhat disturbing as the flock may bolt or the herd stampede when their sorry predicament becomes apparent. $120 barrel/$4.00 gasoline is only a prelude to terminal stagflation--endless prices increases as the economy and employment stagnate and decrease. The bad news is you'll have less money and the worse news is they'll be less to buy

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Thumper', 'I') count myself a masterful skeptic and will research the hell out of a subject until I find it's flaws.

I keep waiting for the master skeptic to show up who has figured out why peak oil won't be a problem.

I am like you, and a topic like peak oil can throw your mind into an analytical loop that makes it feel like you're going to blow a fuse.

Best of luck.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Cashmere', ' ')Talking with the non-PO donkey shit eaters is mostly a waste of time.

I'd disagree with you a bit there, as I consider talking with the ignorants as a chance at "normal life". In fact, I prefer to leave it that way and discuss PO with you guys, so I don't have to disturb their happy sleeping faces. :-D

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Pops', 'H')ey thump, we aren't all doomers, but Bambi doesn't show up much.

Great to hear pops. Hope to lose the doom complex myself, as soon as I can quit re-confirming something that is as clear as day. I haven't had the time yet to take a positive outlook. What happened to Bambi? Did we destroy his natural environment too?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('drew', 'K')eep yourself busy doing other things too, aside from coming here.

I catch your drift, and shouldn't be a problem as I'm working so much these days, in order to prepare myself for what's to come. Not sure whether that money will be worth anything in the long run, but might as well try.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'T')he bad news is you'll have less money and the worse news is they'll be less to buy

Well, I make pretty good money at the moment, but I drive about a 1000 miles a week for work, so that equation may change in the next year or two, let alone the coming inflation.

I'm waiting for a master skeptic.

Isn't FreddyH sort of a voodoo chart reader? His methodology is an averaging approach, right? It might even be that an approach like that will be wrong in every case, since there is no reason to believe that the mean or median of all projections has any special significance.

lol. I can see there are many debates to be had here. Interesting point though really. Where can I dig into the data provided to make these many projections I've seen. Who do I have to blame for my quickening fears that the downward slope is so sheer? Are there good peer reviewed papers and well documented statistics? or are we all just pissing in the wind with no clear "data"?

Point me to the right forum if you would.

Welcome, I've been a guest here for almost two years and joined recently myself. I am skeptical of everything as well, but I find myself in the doomer camp also. Glad to have you and no matter which way you go its always good to have open minds here trying to help put the puzzle together.

It was really painful for me when I found out I was living a lie. Peak oil was a rough discovery for me as was gaining total awareness of how the financial system works and how it's corrupted and influenced practically everything in the past 100 years. Along with some life troubles I eventually had a major nervous breakdown from which I'm still recovering.

Anyway, one big thing you'll learn as most all of us do you have to be careful who you talk to about this stuff. We're all reliant on people in life and discussing this stuff will drive most away. Some people wont accept they've been living a lie and aren't compelled to get to the truth. If somebody doesn't want to hear it and they're not the objective truth seeking type it's best not to discuss the topic at all.

As a side note you'll also find some odd types here that have accepted PO but don't see the other huge lies we've all been sold. Then again, they can bring some good perspectives to the table.

Anyhow, I've come to the conclusion we're all here to learn major lessons and be seriously tested, for the most part we're here to learn how not to become a victim.

Thanks mmasters. It's really strange so far because I feel like many of you are a mirror image of myself.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('mmasters', 'A')nyway, one big thing you'll learn as most all of us do you have to be careful who you talk to about this stuff. We're all reliant on people in life and discussing this stuff will drive most away.

This is exactly why I decided I had to join. I feel like I am holding so much on my shoulders and needed some relief. I can tell you that I honestly wish I had come here first before discussing the issue with friends and family. Not that I have come off as crazy, but because I feel like I should have kept it to myself, and let them live on happily.

What's the ethical solution? To inform or to let them sleep happily in the dark?

Email them a few links (Sirens Shrill was posted earlier today, that is pretty darn straight) from time to time. If they get a clue great, if they don't they don't.

I'm new around here too, its scary how resigned some of the posters here are to PO occuring, I'm not completely convinced yet and I won't be until I see OPEC production decline, that IMO will be confirmation of PO, until then I'm a skeptic.

Welcome Thumper,

Glad you're here.

Sorry about why.
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

Its not part of peakoil.com but many people use both sites. You can start with stats compiled by the oildrum.com in their oilwatch monthly.

There is really no ethical dilemma at all. It's not your job to inform the world of anything. Don't make the mistake of thinking it is. That's an easy way to waste a lot of energy.

When people are ready to learn about it, they will see it all around them, just like you did.
