$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('DomusAlbion', 'C')arlin has always been a dope-smoking, cynical, negative bastard.

I've never liked him or his material.

Yep. A realist by any other name... George is surely one of the sharpest, most eloquent social critics of our time. Always did like the guy.

Bill Hicks was another one. Too bad he bit it some years back; I'm sure he'd have had more than a few choice words about the decaying state of affairs these last two terms...

George Carlin's anti-establishment shtick has always made him a popular comedian with that portion of the public who take their political views from the snarky comedy sketches on "Saturday Night Live".

Carlin and his agent have worked for years to present him as a "rebel." They have carefully crafted his public media personality, and always appears in Hollywood movies as the "cynical rebel". Carlin is the ideal person for Hollywood when they want to make a film to attract the "disaffected" demographic to the theatres, and Carlin is the ideal person for big business when they want to hire a comedian for their conventions to get their salespeople revved up if they or need a spokesperson to show the pubilc how "hip and groovy" they actually are.

In his "real life", Carlin is a wealthy man who owns stock in major US corporations and has significant real estate holdings himself.

Regardless of his personal beliefs, the message he puts out is important and he does it with such vigor and passion that you feel you need to listen.

Good ol' George Carlin on peak oil, tequila lollypops and cell phones that make pancakes!

If George Carlin says it, it must be true. I trust standup comedians for all my scientific and financial news.

Someone has to tell the emperor he isn't wearing any clothes. I doubt it would be his financial or scientific adviser.

A comedian's material has to come from his audience. If they don't understand what he's talking about, he flops. So, comedians reflect the common consciousness of their audience. To crack a peak oil joke requires an awareness on the part of the comedian that the audience is aware of peak oil. So this is significant, as Hagakure says.

You know, I'm tired of the denial that people exhibit about peak oil and it's consequences. Oil is a finite resource. That's obvious. What's also obvious is the colossal number of oil driven vehicles banked up in gridlock the world over, not to mention the plethora of oil derived waste products that surround us.

Our entire way of life is build around cheap oil. That it's becoming increasingly scarce is now well known by thinking people.

I didn't post this as a news article in the Energy News section did I? I posted it the open discussion forum. I say if good old Georgie makes you feel uncomfortable, then perhaps he is hitting on something that you should give some thought to.

I'm not getting any push-back from my peak oil one-on-one sermons any more. I'm talking fresh audience too. I get around.

These response I get these days?

Deer-in-headlights or lock'n'load . . . not much in between.

Those are the kinds of topics George likes to latch on to, so it's no surprise.

Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.

Just think it through.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'C')arlin openly communicates in his shows and in his interviews that his purpose for existence is entertainment, that he is "here for the show". He professes a hearty schadenfreude in watching the rich spectrum of humanity slowly self-destruct, in his estimation, of its own design; saying, "When you're born, you get a ticket to the freak show. When you're born in America, you get a front-row seat." He acknowledges that this is a very selfish thing, especially since he includes large human catastrophes as entertainment.

George fits right in here and turns up often. Apparently, we've been slowly self-destructing for 30+ very lucrative years for George. I do remember someone (pstarr?) pointing out that he's gotten very rich from his schtick.

I'm begining to think & believe Peak Oil is just another sign/ warning for the spiritual ones to prepare for the Purification, the coming of the Great Destroyer, the Rapture.

The time of the Sixth Sun.

I hear a very gentle sound, Very near yet very far
Very soft, yeah, very clear, Come today, come today
What have they done to the earth?
What have they done to our fair sister?
Ravaged and plundered and ripped her and bit her
Stuck her with knives in the side of the dawn
And tied her with fences and dragged her down
I hear a very gentle sound
With your ear down to the ground
