I added "Freeze Up," by Operation Ivy. Very prescient lyrics for a bunch of young punks back in 1989.

Here's a wistful song La Mer

Somehow if I see a beautiful well-made movie or hear a song like this, there's always a cloud of peakoil melancholy that shades the effect of the art. Notice how the strings in La Mer convey the sway of waves, the high notes suggesting the breeze and the salt air.

That is a lovely tune. I know it is "Beyond the Sea," sung by Bobby Darin. This version is just as delightful.

Leftfield, good stuff!

Added

Nightmares on Wax - Les Nuits

I really like this song. When I still had a stereo I would drive this song hard, roll down my windows and just cruise. Its one of those great songs I liked listening to on those slow spring evenings when you have nowhere to go and no place to be, your just goin to go and bein just because ya know?

The only reason I wanted to do 1 song a day was to keep it new and exciting. If we all put in the songs we wanted right away after a week we wouldnt use it anymore.

Very nice! I should dig into more French pop - always enjoyed Piaf.

Added Ravel's beautiful piano piece Une Barque sur l'ocean, which means "A boat on the ocean" if you can't guess/don't speak French. Also enigmatic of rolling waves and the like. Ravel and Debussy were highly influential on soundtrack composition - ever wonder where they got that idea for a glissando on the harp indicating that someone was having a flashback or dreaming?

I couldn't find that the REM "End of the World As We Know It" got saved, so I posted that one.

In addition, The Beatles song - "Across the Universe" ... just for that great line "Nothing's gonna change my world". Rather tongue-in-cheek posting.
(Lennon wrote that song back around 1965 when he was about 25-26 ... and it, of course, turned out to be totally incorrect. He was still married to Cynthia Lennon then. Pre-Yoko. Pre-Heroin. Pre-Beatle break up. Pre-"assassination".)

PS - Cool thread. Thanks for turning me on to that website!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Specop_007', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Pops', 'k')inda sucks that those folks don't get a penny for their stuff... I'm listening though.

In a way they do. You cant download the music, only play it online. If you want it you still have to buy the album.

Nope. You can get a local file copy of the song without paying a dime. You just need Total Recorder and Wavepad. The free version of Total Recorder puts in a 1 sec loud hiss every 1 min 5 sec of the audio file that it creates from your soundcard output. Wavepad edits the WAV files that you saved out of Total Recorder. Record the same song twice, slightly offset in time, and splice paste from one over the hissy parts of the other. Song all patched now. Save from Wavepad in MP3 format. Not that you should do this, but, you know, you could.

I added some more classic country and Johnny Cash's later work:

Johnny Cash - Rusty Cage (Soundgarden cover)
Johnny Cash - Bird on a Wire (cover)
George Jones - He Stopped Loving Her Today
Johnny Cash - Wichita Lineman (Glen Campbell cover--REALLY good)
Kris Kristofferson - Why Me?
Statler Brothers - Class of '57
Johnny Cash - Sunday Morning Coming Down

This one also worked its way in:

Megadeth - Symphony of Destruction [smilie=headbang.gif]
