A great Resource of Online Films related to Peak Oil, energy

link

I wanted to share this resource that has cataloged some of the best documentaries, presentations, and short films that are viewable online related to peak oil, sustainability, energy, and related topics.

There's over 200 films linked to on the site, easily referenced by subject and category, covering everything from climate change, community building, city solutions, corporations, and independent media to food, permaculture, politics, health, relocalization, activism, and more.

It's an amazing resource I hope everyone on these boards will find useful, informative, and (occasionally) just a little entertaining. There are a few comedy short films for a bit of "collapse of society" relief. :P link

Oh yeah and let me know if you know of any good films that haven't been added yet. We're always looking for good finds.

I recently added a few more films on peak oil and related ish.

Of special note is a great talk by James Howard Kunstler: The tragedy of suburbia.

In James Howard Kunstler's view, public spaces should be inspired centers of civic life and the physical manifestation of the common good. Instead, he argues, what we have in America is a nation of places not worth caring about. Reengineering our cities will involve more radical change than we are prepared for, Kunstler believes, but our hand will be forced by earth crises stemming from our national lifestyle. "Life in the mid-21st century," Kunstler says, "is going to be about living locally."

Thanks for the link, sometimes I still am suprised how slow the US and other countries are addressing Peak Oil despite its gaining popularity.

you're most welcome. I'm happy people are finding the site useful.

Yeah when I first learned about peak oil in 2005 it was hardly spoken of. It hasn't quite gone national, but in our area it's definitely been making some major headway breaking into mainstream consciousness.

I just got back yesterday from the National Conference on Media Reform that was held last weekend in Minneapolis, MN. It was inspiring an uplifting as usual.

As I'm sure many of you are aware, the corporate consolidation of the mainstream media is one of the largest blockades to seeing any substantial progress being made with peak oil and sustainability. No matter what issue we care about most, in fact, whether it's peak oil or social justice or environmental justice, real change in these areas is made incredibly difficult while the mainstream media remains silent on the issue, or otherwise reports on them without any context, substance, or investigative honesty.

Anyway, I added a couple great new videos of people speaking at the conference. Check'em out.

Lawrence Lessig is superb!

Thanks Duende, I try to keep myself busy! :)

I added some new films related to peak oil, and several other films recently.

I also added a "Film of the Day" feature to the homepage, spotlighting a different film from the 250+ videos on the website.
