I think I posted back in the late summer or early fall that we would see a decided increase in the cornucopian types.

Just had to come in and say it ;)

Denial is a powerful emotion.

Yes, they come and go.

However, their denial is precarious. If they were firm in their convictions, they would not be posting on a peak oil forum in the first place. What makes cornucopians believe this is an idea worth challenging, that is what I wonder.

I was just thinking the same AP.

I can't remember all the psychology stuff but isn't bargaining one of the stages of grieving over your lost life?

The smart ones will read the site and the others will fight and finally say pfft...

I actually like the same old arguments being at the top of the page, especially now because the folks looking for answers can see their feelings and questions answered without putting it out there and hopefully go on to make changes.

Denial is a powerful emotion.

Sounds suspiciously like the old thing that conservatives do. You know, --anyone who doesn't agree with everything I say is a damn liberal, and therefore guilty of causing all the problems of our world (typical Rush Limberger fans).
You know, a lot of people listen to Rush because he's an interesting entertainer. He's a cornucopian of course, but let's on now and then that he's heard and struggled with the doomer message. Once he said quite heatedly, with genuine anger, that he doesn't want to use corn cobs for toilet paper. Most Conservative public figures are convinced that we just need to drill Anwar and off the coasts more, etc, and that will give us "energy independence." I shake my head and sigh. We can't get 15 million barrels of oil a day by drilling Anwar.

It was similar in the 1970s with all of the self-help movements and guru industry.

You know, "if I can't change the world, maybe I can change me."

When the world looks especially ugly, it's probably natural for people to turn inward and seek answers from other sources.

I expect to see a lot of new religious and quasi-religious movements as we move forward.

A cult of foolishness like "The Secret" is probably the prototype.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Hawkcreek', 'H')igh probability of being fucked does not constitute a sure thing. I learned that when I was 17. Damn.

I relate to that, except if one bends over the probability goes to 100% and more than likely not as planned.
