The Anti-Flaming, or Praising Thread

Unread postby Kylon » Wed 23 Apr 2008, 02:27:07

This thread is for telling how you like someone or something about a person. In effect, it's the ANTI-flaming thread. Where instead of flaming them, you talk about the good things about a member of the forum you like and/or agree with.
I like Plantagenta's pro-technology optimistic understanding, which I totally agree with. The world isn't screwed because of a lack of technology, it's screwed because of a lack of implementation.

I also like how you aren't opposed to good news, but your not a polyanna type either. You understand how dreadful things are, but you see solutions. Your not so up into your doomer mentality, where you don't want to see, or can't see solutions.
I like Tanada for the same reason.

I like Aaron for keeping this forum going for so long.
I like jasonmoonrayson's Avatar, I think bunnies are SOOOOO cute. It's nice everytime I see bunnies(I also like chinchillas).
I like Montequest dedictation towards providing good info.
There are others but I am tired and don't want to go into it for now.

Jack... his posts are interesting,he's got a great sadistic sense of humor and let's face it, sociopaths are interesting. He's a complete and utter bad ass.

Kylon and Hubbert are right. There are certain posters that are consistently "good", and I tend to click on their posts irregardless of the subject just to see what the heck they are writing about. "Good" for me doesn't mean right or wrong or friendly or even sane or insane....some people are just consistently "good" i.e. interesting. In no particular order:
Kylon
SPG
AP
Jack
Aaron
Monte
Mos
Rocdoc
Tyler

and there's more, hmmmm....what are their nom de plumes....
Zar
Becks in the 9/11 topic
AW mostly
That guy from Cyprus with financial expertise
Emerson B
Pops
MD
etc. :) ...Jeez I can't remember all the good ones. Its mostly good folks I think

I like 99% of the folks here, but some of my favorites are:
PrairieMule
steam_cannon
eastbay
jasonraymondson
MrBill
TheDude

If we were doing a sort of Superfriends-style group of villains, I would include the following as likeable (or maybe just interesting) villains (you gotta have the bad guys or the good guys wouldn't have anything to do):
AngryChimp
ANewHuman
BlisteredWhippet
JohnDenver

PMS-Age has not slowed this guy down. Walking library of culture.

POPS/Steam cannon-Much wisdom

SPG/Redstate/Ludi/ferretlover/threadbear-21st century Pioneer
Women. If it takes a village to raise a child then I'd certainly want them to have a influence on both my daughters.

Shanny-Reasons mentioned above and +1 because she is a good friend

Big Tex-Good posts

Aaron-Puts up and resolves more dramatic crap than Minister.

EmersonBiggins-Class act

Golem-High weirdness has evolved into a endearing quirk

Jack/Specop-When TSHF, nothing will cut through the shit like these two.

All others not mentioned-It's been amazing watch people who were scared or confused evolve into folks who have their act together.

I'm glad that I made someone's list!

I generally like all of the posters on this website, even if some of them are a little dopey sometimes.

Everyone brings their own little personal twist. From golem's as yet undiagnosed mental illness to Jayraymondson's ability to laugh at himself to Ludi's organic enthusiasm (enthusiasm for organics?), peakoil.com is a groovy place.

POPS has some of the highest quality posts in the forum and his knowledge base is fantastic. If I had to pick someone to be the head of my post apocalyptic village, Pops would have my vote.

Roccman and I may have our disagreements but we know how to keep it to a dull roar.

MrBill and his knowledge of international economics often puts me to shame and provides a source of encouragement when I'm attempting to finish one of my econ problem sets. He definitely knows what he's talking about and when I'm struggling to describe a difficult concept, he's always able to fill in the details.

SPG, PrairieMule, Shanny, EB, ferretlover, PMS, BigTex, too many to list!

Everyone adds something different to this place and it would be lonely without you. :)

I like being able to write things about peak oil without getting slammed.

In person, among The Public, we're still thought of as ding-a-lings, which we're certainly NOT!

We simply have a unique common denominator and it's really refreshing how it crosses just about all elements of our society. It's simply fantastic! :)

I love you all, but my special faves are, in no order, Ludi, PMS, Jayray, BigTex, golem, steam, madpad, peakoiler, and so on. All the good helpful folks. Specialism may or may not be a successful survival mechanism, but it's pretty apparent that we do it.
I do miss some of the more trenchant commentary that's not around lately.

I love you too, MG. But I have to wonder, whatever happened to madpad? Last I heard, things in Ireland were not looking too good. And we haven't heard from him in quite a while.

It is nice to be loved :)

Anywho, I have no real favorites, but I do have people that I genuinely like and would like to sit down one day and have a beer with, and ya maybe even a cigar ;)

A list of my personal favorites, in no particular order.

Jack - for his Sadism and My peakoil.com email address.

Specop - for his knowledge of certain topics, and for some of the great conversations and jokes we shared when I first started as auctionmonster.

Aaron - For helping keep this site alive and making sure everything runs fairly smooth.

Golem - I know I give him shit, but who can possibly dislike our very own official mental patient.

Roccman - for his ability to keep me in proper doom mode.

PMS - For at times challenging me and helping me keep my ego in perspective. (For being a royal pain in my ass basically)

BigTex - For his enthusiasm, good spirit, and just being an all around nice guy. Oh also for help me with my screenplay ;)

Tyler_JC - Just for being an all around good guy, someone I would like to drink with, and not being abusive with his magical moderator powers. Also for starting some of the greatest threads I have participated in.

mercurygirl - For always being so nice and friendly and some of her threads have been great to read.

SPG. - Her silliness at times. Her physical attraction towards me. ;)

but I have to say, my two favorites would have to be Evilmonkeyspanker and cynicalheretic. I wonder whatever happened to those two crazy kids...

To everyone else, I don't mean to leave you out. I have shared a lot of great and interesting conversations with a lot of you. I just have a bad memory when it comes to specifics, but I hope everyone a fruitful crash.

-Twilight is top shelf.
-Threadbear, Ludi and Ferretlover sometimes remind me of fairy godmothers.
-Pops is tops.
-Mmasters is reliable.
-PMS and golem are like two sides of a very peculiar coin.
-big_rc is one of the few real-life energy industry people here, and he is always a good sport about things, no matter what the topic is.
-joeltrout is like the ordinary guy who wandered through the looking glass--sort of a foot in both worlds, but it's a good perspective.
-zensui is like a student in a fortune cookie writing program who moonlights here practicing his trade. Reminds me a little of Luke Skywalker as well.
-Roccman is like Reba's husband Burt in "Tremors."
From the wiki entry: "Burt Gummer is a firearms enthusiast, and a paranoid survivalist. He is the first person in the film series to actually kill a Graboid. He has an "overkill" approach to trouble and takes himself deadly seriously. His eccentric personality has made him a favourite among Tremors fans and the de facto star of the franchise, along with the vicious Graboids who oppose him."

OT: Just FYI, that gun Burt is holding in the second picture was a real working firearm, not a prop. (my husband worked on the film "Tremors2:Aftershocks") The prop guys let Michael Gross fire it once, and it caused a cloud of dirt to erupt on a far hillside. Roccman needs one!

On topic: there's so many people here I appreciate, I doubt I could do them justice with a listing. Thanks to you all. :)

How could I leave you off of the list of ladies, ludi? A thousand pardons. As I said before, the woman's voice is vital. This may seem off topic and out of place, but praises belong to the Virgin Mary. It was she who taught men to respect women. A strange mythology, but serving a noble purpose. I don't expect it will last in the post peak world.
