$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PenultimateManStanding', ' ')We import 15 million barrels of oil daily. There is no way on Earth we are going to replace that with Anwar and offshore drilling.
Absolutely right.
Lets check the math.
You'd get about 2 million barrels per day from ANWR tops, if its similar to Prudhoe Bay.
That would still leave 13 million from offshore. Lets say you got 2 million barrels per day from offshore Florida, 2 million from offshore mid-Atlantic New England, and 2 million per day from Oregon and Washinton offshore.
You'd still need another 7 million barrels per day.
Add in offshore Bristol Bay and Gulf of Alaska at 2 million per day each,
and you'd still need ANOTHER 3 million per day.
Add in Arctic Ocean off Alaska and you miiiiiiiiiight just get enough, but by the time everything was drilled and developed, you'd probably need even more, because existing fields would be running even lower.
Realistically, I'd guess you could only probably get about 7-8 million more barrels per day from the easiest spots (ANWR, FLORIDA, EAST COAST< PACIFIC NW) if the congress passed new laws to allow it, but the democrats in Congress are NEVER going to allow any of these sites to be developed anyway.
