Fasten your seatbelts!

Postby raisinbran » Tue 08 Apr 2008, 14:15:04

Right before bear stearns collapsed, I noticed the mainstream media getting insanely gloomy, almost like in a panic mode.

well, I feel it again

The optimism from the last few weeks seems to have faded.

I always watch this site and it is always full of mainstream media articles, which are always gloomy. As far as I remember, in the recent month there were more gloomy peak oil articles which has changed now to more economic crash articles.

Keep in mind: this guy wants to sell some dried foodstuff.

I don't want to tell that they are wrong, not at all, I myself think that there will be a major economic collapse, which I hope for, because if not the human race will be wiped out because we're destroying the our natural means which we cannot live without.

If you read these articles they mostly tell us that there wil be a very severe economic crisis, about 50% tell you that it might be like in 2000 or we will overcome by the end of next year.

It's interesting to pay attention to what the "authorities" say, for example the Fed and IMF.

I figure if they want to say something gloomy, then they actually want the people to be scared. On the other hand, if they don't want the people to panic, they'll just lie through their teeth.

Interestingly, it took a while for Bernanke to finally admit the obvious, that we are in a recession.

http://uk.reuters.com/article/usMktRpt/ ... 6620080402

Greenspan is speaking out too:

http://www.ifaonline.co.uk/public/showP ... ame=788154

and so are the other Fed officials

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24015213/

My opinion is that whatever these guys say is not necessarily the truth or reality, but more of what they want people to believe. Just more politics.

So it's notable that now they are coming forward and saying that we are really in a crisis.

Now is the time to open the spigot of fear, I suppose.

And will those of us who have been calling this for over a year now, get any credit for foresight?

Of course not!

Those that have shouted us down are still trying to pretend some miraculous deliverance will occur in the 4th quarter. (Deliverance from something they said wasn't happening, I might add.)

Since I've been following IMF announcements I've been impressed at how they couch drastic events in low key euphemistic terms. If they are doing the same thing now, you have every reason to be afraid, very afraid. This is a five alarm perfect storm warning, for those paying attention, imho

The IMF announcements are interesting, TB. They seem to be the unofficial backdoor spokespeople and trial balloon for what's coming down the pike. And they are understated. Triple the amounts and quarter the timelines, and they are probably accurate?

Funny, that's almost exactly what I was going to follow up with; to triple the amounts, though I don't have much of a hunch on the timelines, though quarter sounds quite possible.

Yes grasshopper! Doom is a dish best served cold...or with matzah balls which ever you have. If you have lots of cold or lots of matzah balls, or lots of cold matzah balls, you can serve a pretty good doom sandwich. But hey what would I know, am I Yentil?

Let's not kid ourselves, we have all been through die-offs before, we just can't remember them. TPTB just can't say, run lemmings run, they have to gradually break the news to them. There is a cliff ahead, but we are safe for now, we are going over the cliff, but we are safe for now, the rocks are close, but we are safe for splat.

It would be helpful if you would name names. I for one have never thought we would be rescued but I did not claim to know how bad it was going to get.

Of course it is hard to give credit (and here my main experience is reading the middle east news threads) when every bit of gloomy news is passed on as evidence of immediate conflagration, only for it pass without event (April 6th anybody?).

Yes something bad is going to happen, jumping at every creaking floorboard does not make one insightful, just jumpy.

This sounds like an apocalyptic cult like the Jehova's Witnesses. So far not much has happened. Expect the process to be slower and milder than you all expect. Incidentally, have noticed that credit card investments are leading over railroads and railroads are leading over oil service companies.
