Your Own Term for the Long Emergency

Sharon Astyk has an interesting essay at Carolyn Baker's website

http://carolynbaker.net/site/content/view/418/

talks about inter-related processes such as Climate Change, Peak Oil, the Credit 'Crisis' (how can it be a crisis if it was planned ?), in an essay where she expounds on the term James Kunstler may have devised, the Long Emergency.

i like the phrase, "1000 foot tidal wave". not a perfect metaphor, because the watery part would be over quickly if we did have such a big tidal wave. Also, however destructive such an event would be, it would be localized in its effect.

{Peak Oil + Climate Change + etc.} won't be over quickly, and it won't be localized

but i still like the term, "1000 foot tidal wave". i rarely have the feeling that i'm doing enough to prepare for it, just that i'm doing my approximate best to prepare for it.

Sounds right to me!

"The Great Testing"

Think you've chosen well? Think your as much the man/woman as your gr-gr grandparents? Is our way of life or our values better or more sophisticated then others?

I guess we'll find out.

The test will not be postponed, there are no do-overs, we are about to experience the fasting manifestation of grade deflation in the history of humanity and the stakes are life and death. So I hope you brought two sharp #2 pencils and your thinking caps.

I guess I'm guilty of at least one conciet (a phrase that really is humorous when I think about it) that what ever happens that when I pass into the next life everyone of my forefathers would be proud to call me their "son."

The Long Emergency.

One principle that is an ecological upsetter
Is that if anything is good, then more of it is better,
And this mis-understanding sets us very, very wrong,
For no relation in the world is linear for long.
