$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Pops', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('BigTex', ' ')have a CAMOUFLAGE band-aid tin I got a while back. (How cool is that?)
That is cool! Like most guys I like containers, they give me a reason to buy stuff to fill them.
I got the camouflage tin at Walmart a while back. It was a Neosporin/bandage package. Every time I look at it I think about what its contents would be if it were a survival kit.
Comments to your comments below:
1. I like a Kershaw tool but no matter.
Good tool.
2. find a rock
A sharpening rod won't take up much space and will allow you to sharpen your knife as well as work with any other metal you may find around the island.
3. make a spear (see # 1)
Fishing line and hooks don't take up much space at all. I would rather have them and not need them....
4. good
5. for what?
Signal aircraft or passing ships, use it for a cooking surface in a bind, look at your impressive beard. Could be fashioned into a tool or weapon in a bind.
6. see #5
Signal passing ships or VERY low flying planes.

Scare an attacking wild animal or natives you may come across. Flush out birds if you have some way of killing one (snare, sling, throw a rock, etc.)
7. for this to be viable for any length of time it could be huge. I'd say a little flint and #1 are better but best to learn to do it the old friction way and keep a live coal.
The kit would just be two pieces of metal (or some kind of material) you can create sparks with (I used to have one when I was in scouting, pretty neat)
8. See #7
A few matches could get you going when you first got there, and you could keep coals if you wanted to.
9. ?
Could be used to trim wire, cut string cleanly, trim nails, smooth rough edges on metal with the file; a good tool for the amount of space it takes up.
10. Is that a cable saw? If so I agree at least at the first.
Yes.
11.
12. Shoelaces but no socks?
Shoelaces could be used for many different things. No room in the tin for socks.
13. ?
To repair your clothing when you start to look like the Incredible Hulk after he calms down. Also, you could do one of those Rambo stitch yourself up things if it came to that.
14?
Don't take up much room, and could be used to attach things to your clothes so you don't lose them.
15. good
16. you have shoelaces...
True. I'll remove the lanyard.
17. You can't figure which side of the island the sun rises and sets?
Not at night when you are trying to navigate in your raft built out of coconuts.
18. ?
Castaway gotta eat. You may need tools for that. The spoon can be used for digging if needed.
19. ?
Can be used to remove sand and other debris from water. Can be re-used a lot. Takes up almost no room.
20. ?
Takes up almost no room and you may be able to use them to build a sat phone if you're like the professor on Gilligan's Island.
21. Good idea but I like light line better (you can't redo the knot on a zip)
Sometimes a zip works best. A zip can be used to make two lengths of cord into an elastic length because the zip can act as a spring. It's hard to describe, but I have used zips before to do things that no other connector could have done as well. If you are severely injured a zip may be the only reliable tourniquet you can apply to keep you from bleeding out before you get back to camp and get the Kershaw ready for.....
22. Yes
23. You have fire...
Yes, but you may need to take a quick look at something in the middle of the night when the fire is getting low.
24. couldn't hurt
25-27. I'd try for a trash bag or two.
I'm thinking water storage primarily. A trash bag is not well-suited for that.
28. or a little self rolled duct tape.
That would work well too.
