Your basic concept is flawed, Zardoz. I contend our ICBM's mean we absolutely can wait around and see what they come up with, the security of the North American continent will never be threatened by conventional, governmental forces again. The ability to destroy aggressors completely garauntees this.
How's this for a concept; withdraw all our personnel and equipment that's deployed in close proximity to Russian and Chinese borders, that might help defuse some tension. Stop responding to every foreign policy crises or disagreement with either violence or the threat of violence, that might calm them a little, stop electing obtuse, belligerent leaders that proclaim things like; "your with us or against us", stop invading and colonizing countries that are coincidentally, both terrorism nests and resource rich.
and$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')e need to have this stuff designed, developed, built, de-bugged, and in position well in advance of that. How hard is that to understand?
If your theory is fundamentally incorrect, I not only will never "understand", I don't want to understand, understanding would imply stupidity on my part.
Maybe you missed this number on another thread: we'll spend more in Iraq in 2008, than both Russia and China will spend on their entire military budgets/ 142 billion.
You paint a picture of our enemies desperately building arms in order to someday conquer us, that is a farce. We now have more destructive conventional power under our command, than all the destructive ability ever amassed in the combined history of the world, but we still need another type of jet, and lots of them.
The idea that our enemies may develope a fighter that's marginally better than our current crop of jets, thus ensuring our ultimate defeat in the event of war, is patently ridiculous.
This is the NFL on a world stage, our linebackers are bigger and faster than yours! Give me a fookin' break, no, better yet, help me to afford health insurance. Peace dividend my ass. God save us from old white guys with too much testosterone.
and$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'Y')ou are aware of all the recent Russian blustering and sabre-rattling, right? What do you think that's all about?
It's about a response to us planning to install missile bases in their former satellites, similar to the bluster and saber rattling we did when Russia tried to install missiles in Cuba. It's what they do, it's what we do. I don't think it warrants ANOTHER trillion dollar military commitment.
What's next, a new generation of bunker-busters every time Bin Laden takes a particularly nasty dump? Where does it end?
In case you haven't noticed the country is bankrupt, and we haven't been attacked by a serious threat, (foreign government) in 64 years. The "official" line is we've apparently spent a few trillion dollars over the past seven years to fight 10000 guys who think an IED is a "wicked pisser."
Perhaps the population would be less swayed to socialism if we had fewer examples of socialism from our "Free Market Capitalists". -----fiddler dave
