mainstream motorcycle site - gas prices.
Yup, people are getting it.
-snip-
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')hat everyone's missing here is how these prices are going to ripple trough the entire economy. Food costs are already up significantly and will keep rising, clothing, all the basics will be going up significantly.
$600 heating bills will forestall a lot of trips to the mall, causing business to trim its sails big time. Layoffs and failures in the offing? You bet. If you're working in a consumer related industry, I'd sure pay close attention to the actions of your company. Frankly, I think the economy will slow to a crawl, if it moves forward at all, which it probably won't. (We'll prob. experience negative growth.)
I think we're in a downward spiral - not a free fall (yet?) but certainly a total contraction of economic activity. Fuel is one part of it, the major part of it, for sure, but it's going to affect our daily lives from the price of a loaf of bread to a six pack of beer.
So....what does our crack GOP administration do? They give us about $600 bucks of borrowed money and tell us to go jump start the economy. What a fucking joke.
For the life of me I cannot understand any of you who consistently defend "the free market." Where we are is the result of almost 30 years of nearly total laissez-faire economics. We've boxed ourselves in due to our unwillingness to plan for a future of reduced fossil fuel supplies. Foreigners are dictating how we are to live our lives now.
Just let the market fix the problem? Well, it is fixing the problem, friends, but with far more pain than anyone ever imagined and which pain was totally avoidable.
