Thinking about moving out to san diego, of the more moderate climate and the current job opportunities. More so than around here.

What do you think?

Unless you are a stay-at-home web developer, you'll need a job when you get there.

Any ideas about what you might be doing in San Diego?

You'll also need a place to stay. I would advise against buying because the property market in that area is in serious free fall. Have you compared rents yet? A one bedroom in San Diego goes for $1,300.

In Tampa, it's around half of that. Just something to consider if climate is on your mind.

Do you know anyone in San Diego? It's awful lonely to move to a new city and lose your entire social network.

Just a few friendly suggestions about things to think about before moving day.

I already have a place in mind, and getting a job with my degree won't be to hard.

Also, I am a stay at home web developer (freelancer), my rates average around $3500 per job.

But I plan on actually using my degree.

I am interested in San Diego primarily due to the climate. Rarely real hot and rarely real cold

Really really overpriced...and facing the numvber one problem of the future...water shortages. I'd give all of SoCal a big thumbs down.

I think you can make some money at the end of the oil age there if you can swing the right job (doctor, nurse) and live cheap- and then get out of there quick with some extra bucks. That means don't buy, rent as cheap as possible, get the highest paying job there and leave before all the rats escape the ship.

Still, its gonna go quick- this recession is going to uglify quickly and California is already deep in the thick of it with busted budgets, deteriorating services, foreclosure and bankruptcy everywhere. Not a pretty sight...but at least you'll have a perfect 72 degrees...

Failing state to the south.

Large metro area that imports everything.

I thought you were re-locating to Iraq?

LOL

I was making a joke about the free lance web developer comment.

I just assumed that the only people who could freely move from place to place without worrying about finding a new job were free lance web developers because they can work from anywhere.

I'm pretty impressed that I managed to score a basket on that one.

Hehe, thanks.

I don't mean anything disparaging, by the way. I think web development is cool. It's just a pity I don't have any aptitude for it.

The weather here today is sublime. I pay $785 per month for a nice apartment in a pleasant area. If things get dicey, the Feds will protect San Diego as a vital staging area for the military. You could do worse, j. Let me know if you do come out here, I'd like to meet you.

I'm pleasantly disposed towards S.D. myself. Sure some asswipes live there.....

But there are some decent people, I know a guy down there who'd like as not let me stay there while I got situated, but it's inland a bit. I'm hoping to develop skills that work in areas with people on their holidays, and San Diego is still strong in that area. In fact my best book on doing caricatures is written by a guy in San Diego. I'd probably just find a cheap hotel then look for a room to rent or something, and contrary to popular belief, you can find nice apartments in coastal areas. Here's the catch: The parking often sucks ASS. So you find a place "on the strip" where the parking sucks ass, you don't care because you sell the car once it's performed its function, and you make a decent living on the strip.

In your case, being a web developer, you can pretty much pick and choose.

I think S.D. is nice. I personally don't trust any technology that happened after say the year 1500, you can't count on it. But drawing folks and playing a bit of street music with an acoustic instrument, those are skills a person can count on. Maybe I'll be making my appearance on the coast there. There's even a bicycle messenger scene there.

S.D. has a lot of area that can be farmed, too, so lots of work after the Fall too, just kill off those non-Whites whose land you want, and there's your farm, no mortgage required.

I can think of worse places.

j, plants is right though he's an enchilada short of a combo plate. It's expensive to live in certain areas, but there are nice areas that are not too expensive. And yes, the weather is no threat. The only iffy thing is water.

As mentioned, and as demonstrated here, the penis-breath patrol DOES exist there. But, you don't have heating bills or excessive cooling bills. Look for areas where they're trying to emphasize public transpo. That part of the coast is nice, and Americans not vacationing overseas are going to places like that, within the US. It's the same reason I'm nostalgic for the OC, because even with the economy in the funk the coastal areas are cool, and there's always some form of employment.

So yeah, I'd consider at least giving it a try. You can always go back if you don't like it. And anti-Mexican, anti-colored sentiment in general is fairly high, it's really not bad.

Well, you're too much of a fucktard to understand it, but we're in alignment on San Diego, it's got its good points and they are many.

Besides, there's going to be rathe widespread race war in the US and San Diego's going to be a good place to see some action. Jay may not be physically fit for the Army (and bad knees are a legit concern) and I'm too old, but California's a good place to be to ding lots of baddies for the defence of Volk and Motherland. Out where I am now, chances are good my fellow Whites will kill off all the non-whites before I get a chance, there are so few to go around. I'll just have to settle for cheering at a lynching or two, what fun is that? In California, there will be plenty of targets for all, and in the meantime, good weather, beaches, etc.

I don't think the water problem will be as bad as it seems, as long as there's not some kind of epic drought. If people are allowed to use greywater on their Victory gardens, catch rain, and if they are charged enough for water to make them conserve it, water won't be a problem.
