I find the above pretty accurate when introducing people to the idea of peak oil.

Anyone have similar, or different experiences?

Is there a quantitative way to measure "concern"?

...really you should have a giant SPIKE at the end of the graph, since you're just making it up anyway. Eventually we will all be "concerned".

I think you are right Aaron. I've read my books looked at the web and done my research. What more is there? Not a damned thing I can do with the exception of preparing for it. Sure, I'll continue to watch these boards and look over the news but It seems the news is becoming the olds, just the sos in a different wrapper.

You could take action

Unread postby thinkpeace » Tue 25 May 2004, 17:04:08

It may be futile, but perhaps through community action you could make a small difference in the quantity of suffering after the peak in oil production. If nothing else, at least you will not feel as depressed when involved with others and taking some kind of action.

Here are some great resources for getting involved.

Post Carbon Institute

Meet others in your area on the second Wednesday of each month to discuss peak oil and actions that can be taken

How to connect to PeakSpeak

Unread postby Pops » Thu 01 Jul 2004, 20:53:23

OK, here’s the consolidated PeakSpeak Instructions!

Download and install http://www.dasmerg.net/downloads/ts2_cl ... 2_2029.exe You will need speakers to hear what we’re saying about you, and a mic. to say bad things back.

When you get the thing installed, click on “connection” – “connect to server”, then right click in the white area of “Local Addressbook” and select “add server”. Type in a label name like “Peak”,

The server address: 69.22.22.203:8767 Put in your nickname. Click on anonymous.

Enter the password: Pi to the eighth place (for those of you like me who don’t know Pi from Pie, that’s 31415926

Once connected, go to the “Settings” menu and then "sound settings" and change “Voice Send Method” to “Push to Talk”. It prompts you to press a key (I used F12) If you don’t have a mic, right click on someone’s name and then “send text message”.

If you usually connect from work, or are afraid someone will think you are talking to yourself, let me know so I can quit harping to get you connected. So far it’s me and A talking trash about everyone, dmtu is getting close, let’s try to get connected and talk together tomorrow or Saturday.

Since I run the PeakSpeak server you can test your connect at any time...

(Until I go sailing later that is hehe)

Has anyone failed using Pops method above?

Use this server instead.

Unread postby dmtu » Fri 02 Jul 2004, 17:11:12

With the trojan I caught I had to go into the registry. mycomp\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\current vers.\windows , rename the windows folder and delete appInit, change the folder name back to windows and delete a randomly named lnikad.dll. The trojan hijacked my browser to about:blank search-page and disabled my spyware and Nortons. Needless to say it was an ugly bastard, and I spent the last two days conquering it. I wouldn't bother you with this except I was concerned that the teamspeak .exe might be compromised so I deleted the setup.exe and downloaded it again and still came up with the pws.trojan which Nortons promptly caught (this time) and eliminated. I believe that server may be infected, and it may be advisable to use the main teamspeak site below for the download. There also seems to be others speculating about viruses as can be read on the main teamspeak site.

http://www.teamspeak.org/

I'm sticking by getting your download directly from teamspeak, as I'm near certain that the site below is the culprit. http://www.dasmerg.net/downloads/DISABL ... 2_2029.exe

Aaron, pops and I are talking pretty bad about the rest of you.

Here's the fix in detail in case I'm not the only one to contract that SOB.

Yes folk’s dmtu is using some bad miner talk about those of you not connected.

Seriously, I didn’t seem to have any virus probs and received no warnings from Norton, but I use the Firefox browser (bite me Bill) and that may have helped – dunno. You might use his link just in case.

And if you connect and hear machine gun fire, it’s just Aaron playing shooter games.

I think the site may have become infected after you got your DL pops. Just a warning, better safe than sorry. A scan on the .exe from the teamspeak site revealed nothing plus it's a newer version anyway.

Is there a way to connect with other IRC chat programs, like mIRC?

If you have problems with your user name:

Click on the PeakChat link, a new window opens. Close the OLD window before you type your name in the Nick Name box.

I have the same question. It looks like your running some sort of java irc client? If that is the case, what irc network/server are you running your peakchat channel on?

Office

Unread postby EnviroEngr » Fri 09 Jul 2004, 00:18:14

I don't think it's a go from behind the office FireWall.

Got some thinking to do.

Home after 1800 weekdays is the best bet for yours truly.

We should schedule a time to chat!

Peak Chat is never active. So why not pick a time when most of us are available. I am free Saturday night.

That would be nice, I am pretty new on this board, so it would be nice to chat with people who understand Peak Oil. (Trying to tell family and friends is to hard, they just don't believe in Peak Oil fully. :( )
