I have a favorite tree. It is a huge, beautiful pine on the front lawn of a property in my parents' neighborhood. The home is a small, old farmhouse that must have been there long before the neighborhood was built around it. Every time I drive by that tree I revel in its beauty, and I know it would upset me if it was cut down.
My second favorite tree was the weeping birch that was on our own front lawn until just last year. We had to take it down; it had died, a gradual death, though we tried to save it. I used to love looking at it from my bedroom window. The yard is really bare without it, I guess we'll have to plant a new one.
So many perfectly good trees, though, are cut down every summer in our neighborhood. Usually they're evergreens and people don't like the needles.
