$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Tyler_JC', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('jupiters_release', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Tyler_JC', 'C')rime is relatively low and crime rates have been falling for years.

I'd say we are safer today than we've been since the 1950s.

Try telling that to people who've lived in Brooklyn or Queens for the past eight years, you're asking to get laughed at. Murder numbers aside and questionable themselves, crime has been increasing, whats changed is how crime stats are documented to make the administration look good. All Giuliani and Bloomberg succeeded at was hiding the crime. I suspect Chicago no different.

So now I have to believe an alternative set of facts about the crime rate too?

My aunt is an assistant district attorney for the city of New York. I'm inclined to believe her over some guy making speculative predictions on the internet. Crime is down throughout NYC.

As for Queens:

2006 Queens County Crime Rates Remain At Historic Low

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'B')rown [District Attorney for Queens County] continued, "Queens County has witnessed a tremendous overall drop in serious crime for more than a decade. The reduction in the level of violence in the county has been so significant--a drop of 74 percent since 1993--that some have questioned whether it could be maintained. The 2006 figures showing that the levels have remained near or below their historic lows--offer clear and compelling evidence that our law enforcement initiatives continue to have a profound impact in making Queens County one of the safest counties in the nation."

My mistake, I should pay more attention to the news, inflation's only 3%, unemployment is down, subprime is contained, Afghani cavemen masterminded 9/11 and Bin Laden vulcan mind melded Cheney to stand NORAD down 5,000 miles away, biofuels and hydrogen will replace oil, terrorists are hiding everywhere, taze first ask questions later.

Can't disagree with ya Tyler.

I lived in New York for almost a decade, your trolling won't work on me.

I moved to a very nice neighborhood, and my personal crime index dropped to zero. Nothing has been stolen from me, no vandalism on my property, no trouble in any way.

I called the cops on a loud party one night, that's it.

When I lived in the hood, I experienced a lot of crime. Two stolen bicycles, one stolen car, one window smashed, cigarettes put out on my door, people pissing on the side of my building, no less than three drug dealers living in my 24-unit building, and when one of my neighbors went on vacation the rest of the tenants in my building pried his door open and ransacked the place.

Now? Nothing but crickets chirping.

Another cop killed in North Miami, just this morning. It looks like a lot of people are targetting cops around here.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('HEADER_RACK', 'I')t's getting alot worse where I am at. Over the last few months.

Had a drunk driver run over two guys at a gas station when they were filling up their bikes. Drug one of them about 1/4 mile before the police stopped him. When questioned he laughed about what he did.
Had a double murder the other day, not sure if they caught the suspect or not.
Had a guy shoot and kill his girlfriend in Victoria's secret not to long ago. How in the hell do you shoot your girlfriend in Victoria's Secret?!?!?! I mean shes not going there to cut you off!
Had a club shooting last weekend.
This is a mid-sized city in southern Louisiana. Ever since the New Orleans trash rambled into town crime over here is unbelieveable.

People wonder why I'm a DOOMER !!

Tell me about it, I know this is wrong but I'm glad we didn't have more room for refugees. They're bastards and the worst of the lot think we owe them?

As far as the girl went I heard she worked there and had already dumped him about a week before hand.

Positive black role models are out there. Look at Will Smith, Denzel Washington, or Colin Powell. I'm not sure that's made much of a difference.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('gg3', '
')If we put Obama in the White House, he is going to set an example for black kids to live up to, and he is not going to take any shit from black teenagers who are hell-bent on gangsta-ism.
That's an interesting hypothesis, gg3 and it may have some merit. It would be interesting to see how the world would react to America electing a black Democrat as president. Ironically enough, I think the idea gained traction with Dennis Haysbert's portrayal of President David Palmer in the HBO series 24.

I think Obama doing well in the primaries is a combination of:

a) he's not the typical "us vs. them" black politician
b) he's being evaluated by politically correct liberals, not the entire country
c) the older generation of bigots are dying off

It's still not a crime there to boink your sister ?

Oh come on, I tease West Virginia, it's actually a great place.

Seriously though, there have been a few crime sprees here. Todays Washington Post

17% Rise in Robberies

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'M')etro's report also shows more serious crime taking place in Metro parking lots, with 930 incidents reported in 2007, a 14 percent increase over the previous year. For the first time last year, Metro police said, crime included thefts of catalytic converters from vehicles.

Since April 2007, seven such thefts have occurred, three at the West Hyattsville Metro station, including one in January, Capt. Dave Webb said. The thefts reflect the increase in property crimes around the region and elsewhere, spurred by soaring prices for salvaged metals. Catalytic converters are valued for the small amount of platinum they contain.

Thieves use a type of cordless saw with a metal blade to remove the catalytic converter, typically 12 to 14 inches long. "You can get it in a couple of minutes if you have the right tool," Webb said.

Here there used to be next to zero crime. The 24-hour kiosks have half their stuff outside unsupervised. They would be instantly robbed in many places by the five finger discount variety of petty criminal.

Even drink coolers with glass fronts are just left out on the pavement with a lock on the door if the place is closed. Again anywhere else and they would be instantly broken into on the first night.

However, as more eastern Europeans move to Cyprus crime, and organized crime, are gaining more traction here. Different value systems I suppose? Opportunism? They have a real hold on the exotic dancers and hotess bars for example. That and money laundering are their bread and butter here.

Across the street from where I live there are a lot of eastern European workers who work long, hard hours, six days a week. They have Sundays off. It is quite common to see them start drinking at about 9-10 a.m. and continue all day long. After they get pretty inebriated then it is not uncommon to see arguments, fights and even the ocassional knifing. But also there have also been a few rapes. I suspect also after a long day of drinking and then a chance encounter with some young couple down on the beach late at night.

It is not so bad here, but the trend is getting worse, unfortunately. I wish they would not drink on the beach all evening and then throw their damn glass bottles in the water or smash them on the rocks.

Surprisingly enough we have not had the problem - yet - of Africans coming across to Cyprus on rafts and trying to get assylum. I suppose because there are still easier crossings for them into Europe? But could become another problem if climate change and poverty become worse in Africa, and their easier escape routes are more effectively blocked by Italy and Spain for example!
The organized state is a wonderful invention whereby everyone can live at someone else's expense.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('gg3', 'O')bama in the White House is the fastest route to a drop in the crime rate.

Count on it.

Um......no.
As my grandpa used to say: "There's always somebody out there that wants what you got"
I've travelled all throughout Latin America and there's a reason the "haves" live behind walls.
Here in the US of A, it's not so extreme (for now).
We have the social programs(welfare, etc.) that essentially keep the "have-nots" from kicking MY door in.
Dial those overburdened programs down and look out.

In a good, Folkish neighborhood, crime is going to be just about zero. As an example, a friend of mine grew up in an all-white, rural area in Oregon. There was an old guy who used to grow HUGE carrots, got by on almost nothing. He and his wife had a cow, for milk. Well one day the cow was found dead with just the tenderloins cut out - the rest of the meat too far gone to even use. The neighborhood got together and pooled their meagre money and bought a cow, then someone was elected to go "sell" it to the old fellow, because he'd not take a handout. My friend thinks the cow was probably traded for something, that of course the donor didn't need lol. There was also a poor family that was looked out after in similar ways. This is life in a good Folkish society.

Out here still nothing happening. Out on the main road into Phoenix, Rte. 69, a cop stopped some young adults, one kid ran then turned and shot at the cop, the cop managed to wound him with return fire, and the whole carload (5 young adults in all) were all accessories to the crime etc. I have to wonder why these cops can't shoot better, that kid who shot at the cop should be dead, dammit. I'm sure these are nonwhites, there are a fair number of those in town, sadly. Crime along the main routes like this may be going up.

So far out here still no problems, been out here 7 months and can't think of where any nonwhites live, within miles, and we're all armed to the teeth out here. Any criminals out here are likely to get a "warm" welcome lol.

Looks like a SWAT officer was killed in LA.

L.A. standoff ends with five dead including SWAT officer, gunman
By Thomas Watkins
Associated Press
Article Launched: 02/07/2008 05:23:13 AM PST

LOS ANGELES - A gunman killed three apparent relatives and a veteran SWAT officer and wounded another officer in the face before police shot him to death early today in a home that erupted in flames during a long standoff.
Police Chief William Bratton said investigators going through the house afterward believed there may be an additional victim inside and so "even at this stage of the game not certain how many victims we have."

Two other SWAT officers received minor fragment wounds in a barrage of gunfire, Bratton said.

There was no immediate explanation of what triggered the bloodbath in the modest San Fernando Valley home, leading to the first line-of-duty death in the 41 years of the Los Angeles Police Department's elite SWAT team.

The unidentified gunman was killed about 11 hours after barricading himself in the house and telling police in a 911 call he had killed three relatives, police said. Those three victims' identities were not immediately known.

The slain officer was Randal Simmons, 51, who left a wife and two children. His colleague James Veenstra, 51, was in stable condition after surgery, said Assistant Chief Jim McDonnel. Veenstra's wife is police captain.

Hey, how are things out in St. Louis? I was out there for the Olympic Festival (before the 96 olympics) and it was wall to wall cops, I never saw so many Glocks in my life!

Something wasn't right with that neighbor, Lisa Masters thought.

In the summer of 2000, Brian M. Walters walked past her bedroom window and stared her down. "He just continued to glare at me," she recalled Monday.

Weeks later, someone slit a screen while she and her two roommates were away from their apartment in Maryland Heights, and took random things such as CDs, prom pictures and loose change. A tape of the movie "Fools Rush In" was moved to the living room floor.

There's tons of city crime as well. One 80-year-old lady was shot to death on a street recently in North St. Louis.

Long Beach is what we Orange Countyians refer to as a "hole". But it's not nearly as bad as areas back east, I'm sure. One change is, it used to have a lot of blacks, now Vietnamese and Cambodians have moved in and displaced them. Better for peace and better for Pho.

The attendees of a Kirkwood, Mo., city council meeting had just finished reciting the Pledge of Allegiance Thursday when a local resident carrying a grudge stormed into city hall shouting, "Shoot the mayor!" and began firing a gun.
The gunman, identified as Charles Lee "Cookie" Thornton, killed two police officers and three city officials before he was shot and killed by police. Kirkwood Mayor Mike Swoboda is in critical condition at a local hospital, and a reporter was wounded but in stable condition, a hospital spokesman told the Associated Press. link
