Idea Genetically Modified Sea Crops-

Unread postby Kylon » Thu 24 Jan 2008, 08:06:21

What if we modified grain to be able to withstand the salt content of the oceans? We could in theory use the oceans as one giant hydroponic farm.

Also, due to the extreme over abudance of fertilizers, phosphates and other nutrients in the Gulf of Mexico, we could use the Gulf as an extremely useful farm field.

We wouldn't have to worry about soil depletion, as the ocean would constantly be exchanging nutrients with itself, and replenishing the waters from which the plants feed.

We wouldn't have to worry about irrigation, as the plants would utilize the nearly unlimited amounts of sea water.

What do you think?

Ever nibble on young sargassum leaves? They taste like potato chips!
