LiIon powered "car" available for sale in Germany

Unread postby cephalotus » Sat 19 Jan 2008, 06:42:21

ok, it's not a "real car", but the Twike has been built since many years and it is now available with LiMnO2 cells...

http://www.twike.de/news.357.html (in German)

For example a 350V 16Ah (=5,6kWh) accu (car not incl.) will cost 9.400€ and can drive the car for ~100km. It is rechargeable more than 1.500 times (incl. warranty).

I hope that we soon can buy "real cars" (a small one would be ok) with plug in technology and LiIon accus.

At the moment I don't need/want my own car, that's the most efficent option :-)

I like it. You sit upright, could run errands, but...

$17,000-$20,000 for a Twike

For that price the darned thing should have four seats!

It's wayyyyyyy cheaper to build one yourself. I would say the vast majority of that price keeps the builder living like everyone else as they sell a few per year.

They build 5 a week and have 5 employees. The company and vehicle were featured on 'Daily Planet' yesterday. I think its kind of cool but why even bother with the pedals? The 'car' does 80kmh and looks like it weighs a good 500 lbs. Fat chance you'ld be doing much in the way of assistance with that.

Hmmm, 1500 charges? That doesn't sound so stellar considering that is a REALLY expensive battery pack. But who knows maybe the tech will improve/cheapen over that 5 years or so.

Did Elmer Fudd name this?

An Aptera looks like it's worth the extra $10K over this.
