Pstarr , I've toyed with the idea of getting rid of the boob tube for years but with two teenagers I run the risk of armed revolt, I wish I could get back the hours I've wasted staring at a box. I'm sure without TV I would have made something of myself by now.

Let the teens keep the television, but power it using a stationary bike. They'll either wean themselves off their viewing habits, or end up with legs like a women's softball player. If their TV time doesn't drop off, plug a blender into the generator every now and again, and have them make you a margarita.

I like your thinking outside the box perdition, but I'm trying to run the board using my new speed-posting system and you just messed me up.

I'm thinking of getting a TV basically for Wii gaming... most television is crap.

Yeah, I'm in the no tv club too. It's interesting how many people here do stuff instead of watch TV.

I just watched your u-tube clips steamer and I'm more convinced than ever that METALOCALYPSE RULES!!!!! I haven't even seen those shows but hopefully they'll replay them. The killer troll on the last clip looks fookin' wicked. I sensed a little wannabe intellectual elitism in your post perhaps?..... Just so you know watchin' TV is doing "stuff", just not actual productive worthwhile stuff.You'd be wise to remember the old adage; all work and no play makes the steamer a DULL boy. And I multitasked while watching the Pats/Jags game tonight , I read the wife's biology textbook during timeouts and commercials in prep for a quiz I'm taking for her tomorrow night. She's enrolled in an on-line college and I'm doing the science while she does art appreciation or some such shit, and she watches zero TV yet I'm doing the hard shit. I admit metalocalypse may be beyond some people but just cause someone doesn't "get it "doesn't mean they have to demean it.Peace out Steamy.

Bla bla bla, I disagree with everything you've said...
[spoil]$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('jboogy', 'I') sensed a little wannabe intellectual elitism in your post perhaps?.....
jboogy, it's hardly wannabe. I'm all honors, my family is all masters and phd's. And it's not an insult on you, it's just I just don't see the point in watching someone urinate and vomit on themselves, which is a common theme in this series.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('jboogy', 'J')ust so you know watchin' TV is doing "stuff",
just not actual productive worthwhile stuff.
I hope this isn't out of context, but it looks like you don't think TV is worthwhile either.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('jboogy', 'Y')ou'd be wise to remember the old adage;
all work and no play makes the steamer a DULL boy.
Which is why I go out and have friends I hang out with in person. We go places, talk about life and we even make eye contact instead of staring blankly at the TV. Crazy I know!
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('jboogy', 'A')nd I multitasked while watching the Pats/Jags game tonight , I read the wife's biology textbook during timeouts and commercials in prep for a quiz I'm taking for her tomorrow night.
You're not actually multitasking, it's just that
studying for most people is maximized by doing it in short bursts. Watching TV isn't my style, but this is a common study technique and not entirely ineffective. So if TV keeps you entertained between actual learning, that's not unusual. But that's not how I study and unfortunately when you throw TV into it, (instead of tossing a ball around or playing pool, talking to your neighbor, or learning what's happening with your friends),
you are instead learning TV commercials and swear words, which isn't a good thing.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('jboogy', 'S')he's enrolled in an on-line college and I'm doing the science while she does art appreciation
or some such shit, and she watches zero TV yet
I'm doing the hard shit.

Steamed wrote $this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'i')t's hardly wannabe, I'm all honors
hmmm, what's honors mean? My kids told me how good my breakfast tasted this morning , I told them I was honored to receive their praise , do I gots honors and stuff now? And admitting righteous elitism in the denigration of a show about puking metal musicians is sort of an empty triumph , isn't it. I mean really , we can all claim moral superiority on that but what would be the point?
Steamed wrote $this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I') hope this isn't out of context
I think herein lies the crux of your difficulty in appreciating the subtleties of METALOCALYPSE ! I thought I was obviously making a joke in poking fun at myself because I watch TV , you apparently failed to sense the irony.
Steamey wrote$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', ' ')Which is why I go out and have friends
That's a somewhat silly and simplistic thing to say for someone of your reputation , I'm surprised. My life is as full as anyone's , I had Bob and Betsy bring over their hay hauler yesterday and I welded it back together for them, they hung out for about three hours, me and Bob watched Betsy show my wife how to work with Suge with the lead and one of those real long whips, it was cool , my daughter had her girlfriend over and we all played pictionary,my son had his friend Rashawn, a BLACK KID who lives down the street over and we chucked the nerf for about an hour before I made dinner, since my wife who NEVER WATCHES TV can't cook , I spent some time here , while staring at a computer monitor is nothing like staring at a TV I admit it's still not in person or going places or making eye contact , all those things you prize so highly. By the way, how do you do all this "press the flesh" considering the amount of time you spend here?1250 posts in about a year?That's like 3 a day , where do you find the time with the reading thrown in?But as I said , staring at a monitor is nothing like watching TV , after all, your tap,tap,tapping away.But maybe your not implying that I don't have a life , in that case no harm no foul.
Steaming says $this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', ' ')You're not actually multitasking
well now steamy you do me an injury , a bit presumptuous of you to assume you know the level of seriousness I assign football , I'm watching the colts/chargers in between keystrokes , and I take verbal intercourse with you very seriously.Perhaps the population would be less swayed to socialism if we had fewer examples of socialism from our "Free Market Capitalists". -----fiddler dave

Begin long rant...

hmmm, what's honors mean? My kids told me how good my breakfast ...
It means graduating with honors. You seemed to be saying I'm a wannabe intellectual. I'm hardly a wannabe and I was clearing that up.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('jboogy', 'A')nd
admitting righteous elitism in the denigration of a show about puking metal musicians is sort of an empty triumph , isn't it. I mean really , we can all claim moral superiority on that but what would be the point?
You'd be wrong to implying or think I'm implying that I'm a righteous elitist. I listen to all sorts of rock, but I'm just not into vomit snuff films. You seemed to be trying to connect elitism (doesn't watch tv) with being the cause for disliking vomit. There's no connection, I just don't like seeing people vomiting on the streets and I don't want to see it on a TV either. It's simple.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Opies', 'H')ey guys what's going on in this thread? comparing lives to see whos penis is bigger?
Yeah, I think that sums things up... But at least we're not in the hall of flames yet!
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Opies', 'D')o I win yet?
Only if you're buying the beer little man!
But you make a good point, so I'm going to edit my posts so the some of the squabbling is hidden unless people want to view it...
