Metalocalypse may be the best TV show EVER! Cartoon network weekdays 12:00 and 3:00 AM, A realistic portrayal of what American society will look like after the collapse. Post your thoughts , feelings ,memorable dialogue from the show here.

Pstarr , I've toyed with the idea of getting rid of the boob tube for years but with two teenagers I run the risk of armed revolt, I wish I could get back the hours I've wasted staring at a box. I'm sure without TV I would have made something of myself by now.
Perhaps the population would be less swayed to socialism if we had fewer examples of socialism from our "Free Market Capitalists". -----fiddler dave

Let the teens keep the television, but power it using a stationary bike. They'll either wean themselves off their viewing habits, or end up with legs like a women's softball player. If their TV time doesn't drop off, plug a blender into the generator every now and again, and have them make you a margarita.

I just watched your u-tube clips steamer and I'm more convinced than ever that METALOCALYPSE RULES!!!!! I haven't even seen those shows but hopefully they'll replay them. The killer troll on the last clip looks fookin' wicked. I sensed a little wannabe intellectual elitism in your post perhaps?..... Just so you know watchin' TV is doing "stuff", just not actual productive worthwhile stuff.You'd be wise to remember the old adage; all work and no play makes the steamer a DULL boy. And I multitasked while watching the Pats/Jags game tonight , I read the wife's biology textbook during timeouts and commercials in prep for a quiz I'm taking for her tomorrow night. She's enrolled in an on-line college and I'm doing the science while she does art appreciation or some such shit, and she watches zero TV yet I'm doing the hard shit. I admit metalocalypse may be beyond some people but just cause someone doesn't "get it "doesn't mean they have to demean it.Peace out Steamy.

Which is why I go out and have friends I hang out with in person. We go places, talk about life and we even make eye contact instead of staring blankly at the TV. Crazy I know!

You're not actually multitasking, it's just that studying for most people is maximized by doing it in short bursts. Watching TV isn't my style, but this is a common study technique and not entirely ineffective. So if TV keeps you entertained between actual learning, that's not unusual. But that's not how I study and unfortunately when you throw TV into it, (instead of tossing a ball around or playing pool, talking to your neighbor, or learning what's happening with your friends), you are instead learning TV commercials and swear words, which isn't a good thing.

You're also swearing in a pretty run of the mill conversation. And you sound like you don't appreciate other areas of study. I'm a hard science kind of guy too, but understanding people, intergroup dynamics, even acting, these are not simple or unworthwhile human endeavors. Managers get paid because understanding people and managing groups is important. Artists get paid because making things look good and work aesthetically is important too. And I don't knock down artists, some of my best friends are artists. My wife has "two" masters degrees and she loved art stuff in school.

You'd be wrong to implying or think I'm implying that I'm a righteous elitist. I listen to all sorts of rock, but I'm just not into vomit snuff films. You seemed to be trying to connect elitism (doesn't watch tv) with being the cause for disliking vomit. Well I have an idea, lets all watch me brag about what I got done today... :lol:

Today I:
* Got up early and looked over my scheduler.
* Picked up some papers.
* Did some cleaning.
* Spent most of my time after that entertaining my wifes friends around town, seeing book stores, art stores, having lunch, visiting cafes...
* Then my wife and I visited the art store owner below us.
* Still managed to crank out a couple posts and answer some messages.
* Amusingly, I wasn't really rushing today or anything, I've been taking the usual amount of breaks making coffee for my wife.
* I'm going out again to drop off some oil lamps at the art shop.
* Then I'm doing some shopping.
* Then my wife and I are going to play cards with family and visiting relatives.
* Then tonight I'm reading the newspapers I picked up this morning...
* Then if I'm feeling well enough I'm probably going to visit my neighbor and bring over some Baltika and listen to the Grateful Dead.
On top of all that I'm still getting over a bad cold, so I'm slowed down a lot. So how am I doing this? Well, getting back to the TV thing, a big part of how I manage to get stuff done is I don't spend 5 hours a day watching TV like the average Joe.
