Jimmy Carter interview - still shining bright

Unread postby Denny » Sun 11 Nov 2007, 12:05:02

I saw an interview today on CBC Newsworld with Heather Hiscox. Jimnmy Carter, at age 86 is coherent, thoughtful and engaged with the inteviewer. He has really put a lot of effort ito this new book, and he paints a lot of the background issues as to why the middle eaast struggle will ocntinue ad infinitum., unless social circusmtances are changed expecialy with the Palestinians.

It is a startling contrast to George W. Bush. Bush seems to either unfocused or he is trying to score short verbal javbs, which often don't fit into the context, as if he's been coached on what to say, but poorly coached. Also, at times, Bush seems to fall into a vacant expression. I really wonder wonder if Carter is not more astute right now to be president than is Bush.

I would not be surprised if Carter has written more books in his lifetime than Bush has read in his.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'L')et our position be absolutely clear: An attempt by any outside force to gain control of the Persian Gulf region will be regarded as an assault on the vital interests of the United States of America, and such an assault will be repelled by any means necessary, including military force.
This, the key sentence of the Carter Doctrine, was written by Zbigniew Brzezinski, President Carter's National Security Adviser.

Serious stuff
We tried. Carter did not respond.

 He warned us back then and most of us didn't want to hear what he had to say.

I wouldn't blame him if he DID tell us to f*%k off.

Carter was right and ahead of his time , he did ok a gutsy rescue mission that had a lot of possible downside so give 'em a break, volker did the right thing too when he chaired the fed, research it
Perhaps the population would be less swayed to socialism if we had fewer examples of socialism from our "Free Market Capitalists". -----fiddler dave

That's good stuff:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '"')See, I got solutions to all your problems—I got 'em right here in my big, hairy ballsack.

You better get down on your hands and knees and kiss Jimmy Carter's rosy-red Georgia-peach-picking ass and beg me to run your fucking country again, because there's no way I'm ever gonna come to you fuck-knobs and politely ask you if I might please be a presidential candidate in your precious fuckin' election. So you can just bite my cock."

It is obvious now that Jimmy Carter is a good and principled man and was a good naval officer and governor. It always seemed to me that he just was not cut out for being the very top of the heap with no one above him to cut orders. This is the hard thing about a president, they can be good and principled, they can be smart and informed and bloody from years of ruthless infighting, they can be likeable and prone to pass almost everything of substance off to the staff around and below them. They can have lofty goals and not a clue as to how to reach any.

You don't really know how good they will be at the job until they have done it for a while, and you often can't tell how good they really have done until they are long gone.

Carter's speech on youtube

Unread postby mos6507 » Sat 14 Jun 2008, 00:54:51

[web]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-tPePpMxJaA[/web]

The video is interesting to watch, but even better is to look at the comments. The amount of anger being displayed. I think we're very well into the transition from denial into anger as was said earlier.

I remember that speech. The guy was ahead of his time. Maybe he wasn't the best president that we ever had, but he was dead nutz on about energy.
