The space up! blue runs on water and solar power!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'V')W's space up! blue concept car is motivated by a revolutionary powertrain. This compact, zero-emission van benefits from the world's first high-temperature fuel cell as well as 12 lithium-ion batteries. The latter can be recharged by plugging the vehicle to any power outlet. A full battery charge will allow a range of about 105 kilometers. The hydrogen-powered fuel cell extends this range to more than 250 kilometers.

This microvan further stands out by utilizing a large solar panel on the roof, which supplies up to 150 Watts of energy that is also used to recharge the batteries.

As for the innovative fuel cell, it offers many benefits: considerably reduced weight, greater everyday utility and substantially lower price. Therefore, it stands a better chance of becoming a mass-produced technology someday.

I will suggest that the photovoltaics are more decorative than meaningful. Lets use a Tesla Roadster for comparison, since it is going to be relatively more common than any other EV in the near future, and the specs are available.

The Tesla averages 14,000 Watts of draw in mixed general road testing. Not terrible by any stretch of the imagination... just three electric clothes dryers running. We can assume the van would weigh more and be somewhat less aerodynamic than the Tesla, though possibly more refined (coming a generation after the Tesla). Count it equal.

The 150 watt panel means, that if it is in direct perfect sunlight for 12 hours a day, it may generate enough power to go about 4 miles. Realistically, not even a third of that.

The rest of it is pretty cool... don't get me wrong.
