Today, I saw some of the largest variances in gas prices at local stations. At one station, I saw regular unleaded gas at $3.02 per gallon. Across the street, a station had it at $3.09 per gallon. Five miles away, I saw a station at 3.26 per gallon!

I have never seen such large variances in gas prices where I live in South Florida. Is this happening anywhere else?

Yesterday I paid $3.51 an American gallon in Riverside California for mid grade (89 octane). The cheap stuff (87 octane), $3.45 a gallon makes my truck ping.

I currently am Car-Light. Only fill up about once a month (the trip to Riverside was to see an old girlfriend) I might start burning more again, or hell just take the train!

My guess is regional differences as the spike in crude prices last month works its way into higher gasoline prices now. The lower prices are likely those that either had contracted at lower prices before the spike or their supplier was slower to raise prices to them.

The wholesale price should be somewhere around $3.00 per gallon based on the futures price of RBOB. Then add on any extra costs for the plephora of local grades as demanded by individual states that adds to higher pump prices. Of which California is one of the highest I think? But just to make you feel good gasoline here in Cyprus this morning is about $6.00, so luckily I burn less than one small tankful per month! ; - )

This phenomon just hit my area yesterday. Before everyone was at 3.08 or 3.09. Now the prices range from 2.92 to 3.08. I'm not sure why some stations dropped gas prices yesterday.

$2.95 here (down from $3.05 yesterday) at one station, $3.08 right down the street. Go figure. I bet you all can predict which station was busier.
