And the big wheels keep on turnin'.....
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'S')ACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The American Automobile Association of California said some drivers are now paying up to $5 a gallon for regular unleaded gasoline.
Crude oil prices hit an all-time high Wednesday, above $98 a barrel and analysts said with worldwide oil demand rising -- it is still not clear just how high prices will go.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'K')SBW checked and found gas in Gorda, south of Big Sur, is even higher. Drivers there are paying $5 for gas. Over the past two weeks gas has gone up 15 cents in California alone, according to AAA.

Why would prices leapfrog so much in one area?

These stories are picking up steam, here's a good one: Is California driving toward gas at $4 a gallon?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', ' ')"Gas prices have always been a pain, but not a real pain like now," said Tom Vega of San Jose, owner of a trucking company doing lot and building cleanup, who now charges customers $9 to cover his fuel costs. "It's hard to plan when one day you get gas for $2.97, the next day for $3.05 and the next day for $3.25.

"Everyone is just so numb right now. Just numb."

That numbness may not go away.

"The current situation is very troubling," said Sean Comey of the California State Automobile Association, adding that the rising cost of crude "probably hasn't been completely reflected at the retail level.

"So, as bad as it is now, it's likely to get worse."

I was beginning to get unnerved by the steady price hikes here in Northern California. Sometimes both on going to work and returning home, the price would rachet up 10cents or so in a single day. Then, no increase for two days, and then all the way to $4.00 for premium, with 20 cents increments between the grades.

Psychologically, doing it all at once is a lot more acceptable.

(I seem to have this desperation to buy what I need now while I can still drive to get it. I've been shopping for a bicycle actually ).

Wholesale gasoline hit a record $2.46 yesterday, and is hovering around $2.45 now. We're going to get hammered with big retail price hikes next week. Lots of places should see premium at over four bucks.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('TheDude', 'W')hy would prices leapfrog so much in one area?
They didn't. It's just that vertain statins charge an arm and a leg anyway, so if the price goes up ~50-60 cents, which it has, it brings everyone, including those who are charging ~$4.50/gal, up. Average price seems to be ~$3.30-3.40.
