I notice AP and Pops have "Expert" as their status. Fair play to them, I always pay attention to what they say. Should the rest of you do likewise now? When did that happen? Didn't see anything about it in Welcome or the Board Kiosk. How many other Experts do we have now? RocDoc? Twilight? Mr. Bill? DantesPeak? Golem?

I think Golem's an expert, anyway.

This is a special rank which can only be assigned manually.

I'm open to suggestions as to who might be a candidate.

This special rank is in recognition of members who hold some special knowledge or have demonstrated significant knowledge related to peak oil.

I say line out clear criteria.

I am a NEPA and CEQA expert...in fact I have been paid as an expert witness before state energy commissions to defend or provide critical analysis of NEPA and CEQA docs.

You need a refinery permitted through environmental regs in the US you call me.

I acknowledge your industry certifications & such.

But really guy... 6 months of bitching can't really be compared to some other members with years of posting.

Convince me otherwise...

Hope you did not interpret my response as a call for title.

Screw that.

All I am saying is before kicking out titles... some due diligence may be in order.

ITO bitching...

To be contrarian is not bitching.

I would guess there are more lurkers and posters that might "bitch" if it were not frowned on here.

Yahoo Boards are packed full of bitching 24/7.

We try and elevate the discussions here.

And I don't mean contrarian... I mean complaining about stuff not really related to the topic.

That's bitching guy.

Just like this thread.

Again I don't agree.

The term "expert" is thrown around in MSM far too often...

It has been diluted to mean nothing - zero...a title of pride to me.

I am a bit surprised some here would want that as a title.

Just as PhD is diluted.

But when newbies show up they see expert and may think "hey this guy knows what he is talking about"...

Well I say at a minimum put what they in fact are an "expert" of...and define that title in a thread somewhere.

I would also line out criteria - and an "entrance exam" into this status.

Hell if all I needed to do was quit "bitch'n" so much ...I would have been an expert months ago...eh??

Probably not... but you might be on your way.

I think you misunderstand... this is my opinion... nothing more.

If you feel differently... express that... I will listen.

What is AP an expert in? This ought to be rich. There are no experts anymore, you want to know something, just type it into a web browser. The only thing I see deserving an 'expert' tag are those that can connect the dots and there is relatively few that can do that here, definitely the minority, the rest are just sheep falling into the propaganda. Those that connect the dots go beyond what the web browser won't let you see. Oh, but you'll see it one day, you will, trust me.

FWIW, I'm perfectly happy with Pops being called an expert. he's probably more of a moth-eaten sage though (in a good way).

As someone else asked, what is AP an expert in that's relevant to PO? Edit: "Commercial Pilot" huh? I'm not too sure of the relevance for Peak Oil to be honest.

Alright I'll throw my hat in Aaron.. I've posted for years and am an "expert" in small scale alternative energy systems and frequently reply to posters with queries of that nature.

Now wheres the "patting self on back" smiley?

Other possible titles might be "expert taunter" :-D

Oh and I'm SURE Madpaddy is an expert! But of what specifically might be of some debate given his variety of skills verbal and otherwise!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'R')ich enough for ya?

That's too rich. What that has to do with peakoil is beyond me. Heck, I worked in a QA department for a software company that does finite element analysis, do I get a red star? Oh and by the way AP never disputed my dissertation on how it was impossible for the center beam supported towers to implode on each other with little to no peturbation, do I get my star now? All he added was BS. At least the major oil companies use the software I QA'd to make their rigs, a half a star? a quarter? The guy is a shill, man, sorry to illuminate you, but like Beck said, everybody gotta learn sometime. Maybe give him the BS star.

No ...actually it is not.

Lots of people do lots of different things and are skilled at doing those things.

How does being a commercial pilot add expertly to the discussion of PO?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Shannymara', 'I') can vouch for GNM. He helped me a lot with our PV system, among other things.

This is just so sweet. And that is all I have to say about that. :)

As to my "expert" status? Over 15,000 hours of flying experience, both military and commercial. Almost 2,000 hours of tactical military flying. Experience in both military and civilian aircraft accident investigation. And on top of all this, I'm sitting in the middle of one of the largest sectors of our economy which has already been greatly impacted by the onset of PO problems.

Interesting concept Aaron, and I applaud it. Seems you have chosen folks on all sides of several issues and it makes it all the more credible.

Expecting incoming. :-D
