Santa Ana Winds

They blow in from the desert which lies to the east. They came a few weeks later than usual this year but they finally arrived. Beautiful atmospheric conditions and you can see for miles and miles with crystal clarity because there is little water vapor in the air. One can see the Coronado Islands off the coast that are usually barely visible. The mountains in Mexico all stand out in sharp relief. It's quite a sight but it gets very hot around early afternoon. So I'm looking out my window around 1:30 as I got home early from work. Up high is a magnificent hawk, straight wings, broad span, flying in gyres and barely moving it's wings as it catches the drafts of the hot winds. Then I look down and notice that all the small birds that usually fly around the telephone poles and wires are missing. Where are they I wondered. I figured they were probably in the trees so I waited and watched. Sure enough, after a while I saw them flying occasionally from one low shady spot to another and I wondered, were they trying to stay out of the sun or avoid the hawk?

SpringCreekFarms, it's not always word games. Sometimes I write with sincerity and try to craft my words to express something more than just games. Today the winds from the east were gone and a mist obscured all the things that I saw yesterday. Plus there was a layer of smog.
