Human Photosynthesis from heat-

Unread postby Kylon » Thu 04 Oct 2007, 03:28:06

What if we modified humans to behave like these?

http://www.astrobio.net/news/article451.html

The bacteria in deep sea vents that use infrared radiation.

I've heard from other sources that some can survive on infrared radiation into the 1000nm scale, which means those bacteria would be able to absorb energy right from the atmosphere, the heat flowing around.

If you added a small black chemical compound that absorbed energy extremely well, then it would re-emit even lower wavelength radiation allowing for even greater production of energy.

All in all, you could ultimately modify humans to produce this we'd have more energy and synthesize more of our energy. Plus we'd be more efficient, wouldn't waste any of our energy.

If we could then modify ourselves to produce the things we needed(vitamins and such), to produce constant telomerase(eternal youth), to regenerate(and grow more adult neurons in the cerebral cortex), oh and operate at a much lower body temperature(maybe 50 degrees, that way we could use the energy surrounding us) then we'd be set.

What do you think?

My friend, even if we had photosynthetic skin it would not produce nearly enough energy to power our bodies. It may be enough to keep plants alive, but you may notice that plants can't move. Their cells do not have the energy needed. The mitochondria within our cells produce our energy in the form of ATP (adenosine tri-phosphate). ATP is a powerful source of energy, and the reason we can even move at all. Besides if I had green skin, I don't want to sing kermits song of, It ain't easy being green.

As for immortality, well some species on earth don't have a life span like alligators or the female flounder. They still die however, because of either illness or predators.

I think I would rather gain my immortality by becoming a cyborg, then an android. That way I would not get sick or have to worry about predators. I would just need replacement parts. All I would have to do is stop by Canadian Tire twice a year for motomaster parts, and wal-ah I am fixed :)
We are the Borg. Resistance is futile. Your culture will adapt to service ours. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own.
