Many of the pics on that page really are from Romania, but most of the Skoda and Lada pics aren't, they're from other eastern european countries (Poland/Slovakia etc). And many of them are at least 10 years old, they've been running around the interwebs since i was in junior high. At that time, it is true that poverty was a big problem in many parts of Romania. Right now, most of those places are almost deserted, all the able adults are working in Italy/Germany and the only people left home are those too old to move or too stubborn to leave the "house" they were born in.

I am a huge fan of John Gray, have just finished reading Black Mass it is a very worthwhile read. He is very strongly influenced by Lovelock although that is more apparent in his other book Straw Dogs.
