I just got an email from a local wind/solar provider. He has been fighting with LA county for months about a new regulation and it sounds like he's giving up.

I had forgotten he was even trying.

Here's the rule. If I want to put up a wind turbine I must get the go ahead from all neighboring property owners within 1000' of my property line. So I decided to do a little ciphering, if my lot is 2.5 acres and all the lots around me are 2.5 acres then I need agreement from 81 different property owners.

How likely do you think it is that a person can get agreement from 81 different people on something.

What's that? Yes. I agree. I might just as well be a snowball in hell.

Trueblue,

I don't know if this will help, but it might.

There are many local ordinances and/or covenants which try to limit satellite dishes. However, those ordinances and covenants are invalid to the extent they conflict with FCC rules, basically, not valid, bc as you probably know, under the Supremacy Clause, Federal laws/rules preempt state laws etc to the contrary.

Now, what I don't know is if there are any Federal regulations dealing with energy etc which might apply, for example, to the wind turbines, and thus preempt the ordinances to the contrary. Just an angle, but I would start there.

Just an observation!

You have been at PO.com since December 2005 and haven't moved from LA county and your "mad" at the local government codes?

You must be stuck in your current residential situation. Sorry your having issues.

idea 1.
Put a cellular transponder on it. Let alltel or whoever fight the luddites. Charge tower rent to alltel.

idea 2.
Mount the satellite dish on it and tell them FCC regs allow etc etc...

idea 3.
Do it anyways. Its easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

idea 4.
Move out of the socialist craphole of Kalifornia.

LA county is big, and there are some survivable locations. I make considerably more money here than I would elsewhere. I love my job. Have I convinced myself yet?

Big County with lots of people! Survivable locations show me the water table! More money more expensive! Glad you like your job! I think you have convinced yourself.

Best of luck!

Add brightly colored, pinwheel shaped blades to it and call it art?

Send L.A. Mayor Antonio Veragosa another toilet brush. I understand he has a very large collection of them.

If you're not in L.A. city limits, send one to your county board member.

Dang, that's some crazy regs. Our stuff just has to be as tall as it is close to the nearest neighbor and have to consent of those next door.

Truecougarblue,

I dont know what part of LA county your in but here in Palmdale if you have a 1 acre lot you can put up a wind turbine. My lot is only 7000 sq ft im working on changing the local code that will allow anyone on any size lot to have a wind turbine, if you have ever been in the Antelope Valley just north of Los Angeles you know that the wind is always blowing up here or atleast it seems like it. I have found a wind trubine that is about 50 feet tall and makes about the same noise as a air con and will save me about 75% on my electric bill for about $15,000. I just dont get it this whole area up here could be a true green city just from the wind alone but add in the solar and it would be great.

Of topic, but I did start it.

One of my wells is static at 25 ft., the other is 33ft. Both produce over 10GPM without drawing down below 60ft.

I'll answer What2do above as well. My acreage is in unincorporated county zoning, and as stated above logic and reason just have no place in this area.

Additionally, as far as population goes. My rule is 40 acres and a mule.

Install one of these and call it a merry-go-round or a wind sculpture or bird chaser. Bury the wires. The company is in Rohnert Park. Doesn't appear to be for sale yet, but maybe you could snag a prototype planfrom them and give them operation results.
