Did I hear that right? He was told by the officer to get up, and when he started to stand he was shot?

Lovely.

Just a quick question for everyone. When you think of the police, do you feel a rush of reassurance these days that an upholder of the law is present to keep the peace? Or do you feel fear and make sure that you're not accidently doing anything that might irritate them?

I have friends in the force who are absolutely everything they should be. But for the most part these days, I consider the police a force to control the public, keep them in fear, and not as someone I would want watching my back.

Just a sign of the times of course, but it saddens me.

Damn! That's some scary shit . I like how the anchor says the video will be used to determine what happened . Shit man , it's pretty obvious what happened , cop had been itching to shoot someone and this was his opportunity . His order for the suspect to rise was his excuse for shooting in case of witnesses . " Uh , I told the perp to stay down and he suddenly lunged up at me, I felt he was making an aggressive move towards me so I used necessary force to defend myself , I did not tell the suspect to get up , I told him NOT to get up , the witness must not have heard correctly." - Too bad for officer Piggly-Wiggly the audio clearly reveals his order for the perp to get up. Still , the deck is stacked so far in favor of the police getting away with this sort of thing that I'll be surprised if the cop does more than 6 months on paid leave.

If the Founding Fathers were alive today they would place those police officers against a wall, line up with their muskets, and execute them by firing squad.

We'll be back to that soon enough, I'm sure.

The "perp" lived and is now speaking out.
The cop was dismissed from duty but not found guilty of wrong doing yet he still faces a civil rights lawsuit and other.

I did not think I would agree with Oilisadumbass ever... yet this time I do. Now, let us wait for the fascist little piggies on this board to come out and try to justify this one. Here little piggy piggy piggy.

I have known many personally and besides the fact that alot of them were my "fair weather" friends most are true assholes, insecure little pricks who hide behind a badge and a gun.

They steal, bully, try to bulldog everyone and otherwise abuse their power but hey so do all of their superiors all the way to the top which sends the signal that it is okay all the way to the bottom.

Trust no man ever . ----FerrelG . Yea , Ok nutjob, why don't you lighten up ?How can you exist in a world where everyone and everything is out to get you? I want the truth FerrelG , are you now or have you ever been under a strict regimen of heavy-duty psychotropic drugs ?I like your fist in the air , stick it to the man attitude but Jeebus christ I'm starting to think you really need round the clock supervision. I'm sorry FerrelG , that's been building for awhile and I had to let it out. I'd erase this and pretend I never wrote it but I'm afraid putting it back in the bottle will only renew and strengthen it , resulting in a bigger and nastier rant down the road. Please forgive me.

Not that I don't find this abuse of power disturbing, but isn't this video almost two years old?

Not to mention that the news anchor is dead:
Hal Fishman 1931-2007

I recall hearing this particular news anchor, Hal Fishman, use the words "take them out" in a commentary where he repeatedly urged police to kill perpetrators of car chases.

Firstly no cop should ever call the suspect a "Perp." The suspect is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. I hate these "Judge Dread" types who think they are the law when they are nothing but lying pigs.
