Thruout history few have been able to fully comprehend the awesome power judiciousely yet quietly wielded by the Reuben , The egyptians bestowed godlike status upon it and thought it sacred , only pharoah and some high priestess'es were allowed to eat it. Some say both Hitler and Nancy Reagan consulted the reuben like some delicious , beefy fortune-teller . The Incas made golden baubles in the likeness of the reuben and were said to sacrifice virgins on a giant reuben alter deep within the jungle . I myself have , on occasion , made a reuben with extra russian dressing and melted swiss only to give in to my baser instincts and use it as a surrogate wife . I will not go into detail , suffice it to say the sandwitch was unfit for human consumption afterwards but the dogs seemed to love it.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('wikipedia', 'T')he origins of the Reuben are disputed. One account holds that Reuben Kulakofsky (sometimes spelled Reubin, whose last name is sometimes shortened to Kay), a grocer from Omaha, Nebraska, was the inventor, perhaps as part of a group effort by members of Kulakofsky's weekly poker game held in the Blackstone Hotel from ca. 1920-1935. The participants, who nicknamed themselves "the committee," included the hotel's owner, Charles Schimmel. The sandwich first gained local fame when Schimmel put it on the Blackstone's lunch menu.

jboogy's story is more entertaining (except for a certain section [smilie=5shocking.gif] ) I'll miss the Reuben sandwich when TSHTF.

Look at the segmentation in the fat on that piece... that would just fall apart in your mouth in small granules. The pepper would dance off your tongue.

"Brisket"...what an odd word. I've never heard of ANYTHING else termed as a "brisket", except for corned beef.

Who/where/how do you suppose that word originated?

Enquiering minds want to know :)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Etymology Online', '[')i]brisket -
1338, perhaps from O.Fr. bruschet, with identical sense of the Eng. word, or from O.N. brjosk "gristle" (related to brjost "breast") or Dan. bryske or M.H.G. brusche "lump, swelling."

...and you ought to inquire about the proper spelling of the present participle modifying "minds" in your flawed sentence above.

Indeed, I have managed to retain my anus lo these past 49 years.

Are you implying that yours is now lost or now belongs to someone else? In that case, I think you probably have allowed your brisket to be corned way too many times!

Actually, "Carlhole" was a college nickname designating the mysterious dimension where all the pizza, joints, beer and occasional girlfriends vanished into.

"Hey, Tom! Where's that block of cheddar I had in here!"

"I dunno. It probly fell into the Carlhole".

It started when someone found out that I had eaten something I shouldn't have or whatever and I guess he couldn't decide whether to fully commit to the dreaded, "Asshole!" condemnation being that it was fightin' words so it came out a stuttered, "You!...Carl!...hole!". And it stuck.

But now I'm using it. :)

Arby's is fake roast beef and it will be fake corned beef , they'll take trimmins' , grind 'em up , throw a little coloring in, and presto! If you look close at the meat it doesn't have striations like real meat . Don't eat krystal burgers either , if you haven't eaten one yet ...don't , they are truly foul . Steak and shake burgers RULE !

I seemed to remember Arby's getting busted once or twice for mixing dog meat with hamburger helper. I could be mistaken. Maybe it was rat meat. How else could they stay in buisness?

When I was a kid (way back when) the rumors were that MacDonalds and Burger King were importing Kangaroo from Australia labled Beef.

It doesn't matter when or where you are, if you don't follow the meat from slaughter to diner plate you really don't know what you are eating, you are just trusting that someone somewhere is making them sell you what they say they are selling you.

Does Kangaroo meat taste like beef? Australian supermarkets stock various cuts of Kangaroo meat. I wonder what it tastes like. I've eaten crawdads, frogs, and rattlesnake, but never a marsupial.
