The only places it's not found is in deeply religious and isolated communities like the Amish or those crazy hicks who dance with snakes, and among recent immigrants who havn't fully internalized the "fuck you" values of the Empire - although their kids will end up completely Americanized and utterly predatory and useless.

The 60s credo of "Do your own thing" is still good advice. In a free society some will see the Peak Oil problems coming down the pike and will plan for it and some won't.

Time will tell who is right.

It looks like 2007/08 will be the beginning of real problems around here, anyway. The budgets just won't budge. The town, state and Federal budgets are all tightening. It's going to get ugly. They always end up blaming it on the welfare cheats, but it looks like a lot of people are going ot be hurt by this next winter's energy costs, either directly or indirectly.

It looks like the winter of our discontent will be this next one. 2008 won't be much fun. I liked peak oil much more when it was just an academic exercise. It's getting way too real lately.

I filled up this morning for low grade at 3.59 which sucks but I'm betting that it wont be long that I look back at the price as nice.

Gas is still about $2.50 here in Alaska, but for some reason the same gas costs a lot more after it is delivered to the US west coast.

Why is gas only $2.50 in Alaska? It seems like it should be more there. It's $2.82 in Houston, Texas. That's about as close to the refineries as you can get. What's up? We're paying $3 around here.

Usually everything is more expensive in Alaska. I've been amazed that our gas prices haven't been higher.

The current high prices in the lower 48 are ascribed to refinery shortages rather then supply shortages, i.e. the refineries are not quite keeping up with the growing demand. Maybe thats actually true.

I like Ancient Age. But if I was rich, I'd try all the expensive kinds. Including those expensive broads.

I think we still have a decent chance of seeing $4/gallon gasoline prices in the US this year, especially if there are additional US-Iran or Israel-Syria military incidents. 8)

Folks who are pinched by the high energy costs now are only going to be hit even harder as energy prices move up in coming years. Thats what peak oil is all about. 8)
