I recently got my hand on a great collection of high res photos from WW2. I literally couldn't believe my eyes. Just 6 decades ago, the population of the US experienced massive shortages and had to live through some quite hard times. I believe peak oil could be even harder, again requiring "all hands on deck" from everyone in society. Do you think the current generation of pampered baby boomers has what it takes to go through what their grandfathers and grandmothers had to endure?

I thought the Baby Boomers WERE the children of those who fought in WWII and were born afterwards? Their grandchildren must be Gen X? I think every generation must face its own set of problems. But post peak oil depletion is not the same battle as re-building worn torn countries after the second world war. One was done with increasing amounts of energy, one will be tackled with less energy. Different starting points, different end points.

ive heard tales of war from old folks, how our nation was governed by foreign forces (im from south east asia),
malnutrion, rice was hard to find, people at the time substituted rice with tapioca/cassava

There is no comparaison. Back then there was a common enemy to motivate solidarity and fight against. Peak oil is an invisible enemy and will break society.

Is the current crop of overfed , longhaired leaping gnomes as prepared for hardship as the greatest generation ?I don't think so. Many of those around in 1940 were around in 1929 , and many were from european countries that weren't so hot at the time they left. But they will adapt , or they will perish quickly.Don't be surprised at man's capacity for overcoming obstacles in order to survive. You will eat bugs to live , you will sleep wrapped in newspapers to live , you will eat your dog to live , most of us will bow to the tyrant to live , shit, most of us will rat out our neighbor for an extra loaf of bread should food get scarce .When you get down to it ; basterd covered basterd with basterd inside pretty much sums up half of america.
