Yes, The architecture. Deep sloped roofs for snow as in most of Eastern Europe but not much timber in evidence as you might see in Austria or Germany. Good luck with the retreat. Ukraine is not a bid choice IMO. Are you Ukrainian?

I like the place. Fertile soil, plenty of food and water, low population and rather cheap costs of living (but not for the internet grr)
Thinking about investing in a greenhouse for the garden but not sure if it's worth the costs and energy.

I have a greenhouse and find it to be not much benefit. It is quite small and only fits about 10 tomato plants which then have to be watered. If you go away for a day or 2 the plants will die unless you set up a timed water sprinkler.

This year my tomato plants got blight and I lost at least half the harvest. I had 1 very productive corgette plant in there as well but my outdoor corgettes have done almost as well.

I suggest you get a cloche which is a galvanised frame covered with transparent polythene - much cheaper than a greenhouse.

Of course for some plants ie. peppers etc. in my climate, a greenhouse is essential.

Emma: I would say, just by looking at the buildings and property, here in the US two solid brick structures, paving, fence, tile roof, etc such as you have would easily cost 4 - 5 times as much. Congratulations on a really nice home and surroundings.

Very nice Emma , I 'specially like that solid lookin' wall around the property.Ukraine is probably good choice , I believe they have pretty substantial oil and gas reserves and they've already had some economic upheaval recently so they'll probably be good to go for a while.Brick with iron bars ? I'd be feelin' pretty secure in that . Golem that is an awesome garden. Are those them stargazer lillies?

Very cool Emma! I like it a lot, especially the brick wall around the property and the underground storage.
Seems to be missing the veggie garden though...

I'd consider hiding the entrance to the underground shelter...and maybe having a tunnel to it from the bsmt of the house.

I couldn't possibly be that person, but I am curious, is the game and gatherable food in that area plentiful enough to need that? I mean, in my area it is, but wisconsin is unsually filled with wildlife and such. I wasn't sure if the Ukraine was equally plentiful that hunting could really be a large part of your diet.
