$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'S')o if I give to the poor or use a green car I am going against Darwin's laws?

An interesting question that I often ponder.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Emma', ' ')we have to set our priorities right if we want to survive and evolve.

Yes you do that, and everyone else will do exactly as they please according to their priorities; which most of the time means putting themselves and their kin first and not giving a damn about the environment/others less fortunate. Brazilians happily sell off their environment to loggers even though they know how precious it is in order to get money and feed their kiddies. Most of them think they have their priorities right: their children and the here and now. You could tell them till you're blue about how important the environment is for the future but they already know it, they just think that money for the here and now is even more important. What I'm trying to say is that it's just not that easy to change the status quo.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')There are various levels of greed, my dog is greedy when it comes to food but he won't kill me if I don't give him my cheeseburgers.
We kill each other and the environment for profit.

And sadly we do it willingly. Mainly because we in the first world cannot see the result of our actions up close and personal.

Doug Bower (owner of the site you linked to) and Dave Chorley have been discredited many times over for their self assigned credit as makers of crop circles. Just another example of human hubris and lack of self confidence at work.

Have you ever considered a hive mind?

A species that operates like insects, working for the collective.

A few highly intelligent big bugs, controlling a large number of less intelligent bugs who could be bigger/smaller, but who obey the smart bugs commands?

We already know that ants obey/operate under the control of their queen.

If you had a really big smart bug, with a large brain(perhaps the queen) she could see long term into the future, and decrease her breeding or tell other insects to die off for the group(which they would out of obedience to their mind controlling queen).

Such a group of large, highly intelligent insects could advance to create an advanced civilization. They wouldn't be very nice as they would see as at most food or something to study, but they might advance to that level.

Anyways, just a thought.

What if a race of aliens lives on a planet with two suns? (like many star systems in the galaxy)

The added bonus of two solar inputs could provide them with 24/7 access to abundant solar power.

They would be perfectly capable of running their electrical grid off of solar power.

We just get screwed on planet earth, being stuck with a mono-solar star system.

A universe with trillions upon trillions of planets and we are it?

Not a single other life form in the entire universe?

That's about as a likely as finding a man sexually attracted to Hillary Clinton! Ha!

There is peak oil doomer pessimism and then there is just plain "My Chemical Romance" type emo whining. (Do you call emo's emo's in the states? *unsure*) I think extrapolating our current short term condition to a universe of billions of galaxies is a wee bit the latter.

We invented the term, emo.

Of course we use it.

Or rather we did, last year.

These things come and go rather quickly.

Now what am I going to do with all of these Coheed and Cambria CDs...

So they really are from aliens? And the aliens like to use FireFox and are fans of the Olympics?

Maybe we should ask Nike, since they payed someone to make their crop circle advertisment:

We just get screwed on planet earth, being stuck with a mono-solar star system.

It is generally thought that any planet in a binary star system would have extremely irregular and volatile seasons, making the evolution of life and civilizations extremely difficult.

It doesn't matter that there are trillions of planets out there. The odds of just one forming all the necessary and precise conditions for an Earth-like world to exists are amazingly low. The odds of it happening more than once are preposterous.

There may be aliens, but they highly likely won't be anything like us. Despite what sci-fi has led us to believe, we are likely an amazing and rare fluke of the universe.

It would be a great shame to let such a rare thing die out.

Two things...

1) no it would not

2) there will be no "letting" it happen like we have the power to stop it...it just will happen...'tis nature

no it would not

So if it turns out that life is this exceptionally rare and unique thing that only managed to spark up for a brief moment in this little corner of space and time, you honestly don't think it would be a shame if that rare spark was allowed to go out, rather than somehow finding a way to flourish?

You think the universe would be better if it was completely void of life?

In a world where millions suffer from hunger, why are we intentionally destroying crops for the sake of art?

I think that sort of behavior is reprehensible.

As for binary star systems being unfavorable to life, I've seen evidence to the contrary.

It doesn't particularly matter though.

There aren't any advanced alien civilizations in our immediate area (we would have noticed them by now).

I know they exist somewhere but we just can't detect them because they are too far away.

Well - seems to me that us rare humans seem to be doing a swell job of destroying the planet...shitting in our own nest so to speak...so it really does not matter how rare we are.

Hmmm..Tyler ...just when I thought we were in agreement.

Crop circle formations do not kill the plant.

Crop mashings - the fakes posted above mine do.

Maybe you were referencing the "crop mashings"...eh...if so we are still in agreement...if not it appears you have done very little if any research into crop circle formations.

Roccland, you caught me.

I know very little about crop circle formation.

I was under the impression farmers hated it because their crops were damaged as a result.

Regardless, is it not harder to harvest crops that have been pushed down on the ground?

(this side conversation is a distraction from the issue at hand. Namely, whether or not advanced aliens died out as a result of an oil shortage)

Actually Tyler...this conversation is germane to the OP because crop circle are physical evidence that aliens did NOT die out because of PO.

ITO harvesting crops...every acre is harvested...nesting birds in the formations are untouched and their eggs not smashed...and the farmer collects donations from crop circle chasers to visit a particular formation.

So a win ...win ...win for everyone.

The "crop mashings" have ZERO of these effects.
