Update from TSA as to prohibited items for air travel
Was just checking at the TSA site with regards to most recent air travel carryon restrictions for US bound or exiting flights and found this:$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'Y')ou are permitted to bring solid cosmetics and personal hygiene items as such lipstick, lip balm and similar solids. Please remember these items must be solid and not liquid, gel or aerosol.
Only the items mentioned above are permitted in your carry-on bags. If you have questions or doubts on certain items, place those in your checked baggage.
We encourage everyone to pack gel-filled bras in their checked baggage. We recognize the sensitivity of the issue and we are reaching out to key women’s medical associations to assist passengers and make information available to them while respecting their privacy

Hold on a moment...is this some kind of collaboration between the companies that produce gell-filled bras and the Transportation Security Administration that will force everyone to buy gell-filled bras? Does this mean that all non cross dressing travellers wishing to visit the US will have to run out and purchase a gell-filled bra?
this is very disconcerting....is the US completely dominated by transvestites and/or cross-dressers? No wonder they keep going to war with everyone. :-) :-P

No, I think its saying that the old men working TSA security are looking forward to asking women to remove their gell filled bras before boarding for security reasons.

TSA now employing "Behavior Detection Officers"

Unread postby Ferretlover » Fri 17 Aug 2007, 17:58:18

{thread title edited for clarity - emersonbiggins}

Smile … Or Else
‘Behavior Detection Officers’ are now watching passengers’ facial expressions for signs of danger. It’s a new level of absurdity for America.
By Patti Davis Special to Newsweek Updated: 11:40 a.m. CT Aug 16, 2007
Aug. 16, 2007 - It was bound to happen. Now even a frown or grimace can get you into trouble with The Man.
“Specially trained security personnel” will be watching passengers for “micro-expressions” that will reveal treacherous agendas and insidious intentions at airports around the country. These agents, who may literally hold your fate in their hands have been given a lofty, Orwellian name: "Behavior Detection Officers."

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')hese experts have determined that fear and disgust are the key things to look for because they can hint of deception.

Or perhaps we fear missing our connecting flight and then being late to a business meeting, or wedding, etc. And the look of disgust is directed at the airlines and airport for overbooking, overcrowding, security theater, dirty facilities, and bad food.

They should be on the lookout for unusual behavior, such blank expressions of relaxed contentedness or body language that signals satisfaction.

heheh, it thought I was pretty funny.

This new initiative has Orwellian society written all over it though; it's even worse (much worse actually) than the slowly increasing numbers of public security cameras in the western world.

I see Bush and his minions have made it as far as Chapter 5 of 1984.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '"')It was terribly dangerous to let your thoughts wander when you were in any public place or within range of a telescreen. The smallest thing could igve you away. A nervous tic, an unconscious look of anxiety, a habit of muttering to yourself—anything that carried with it the suggestion of abnormality, of having something to hide. In any case, to wear an improper expression on your face… was itself a punishable offense. There was even a word for it in Newspeak: facecrime..."

Great . . . now I'm going to be paranoid when I fly and will probably exhibit just the right expressions to get my ass hauled out of line every time I fly. . . just great.
Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.

Just think it through.

No need to fear, MD, just put your money into one of these nifty masks and experience the freedom to step aboard the friendly skies without being sidelined and cavity-searched by TSA agents.

Nice story. The comments are very revealing. Things are not getting better.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'B')ut, before we get there, long layover went to Pennsylvania and they rip stuff apart beyond belief. Never again do I accept fares that switch there. You swear you time warped to a Zimbabwe Jungle inspection. Everyone is on something, Yelling just to talk, and has a power trip infection. Just proves there are no standards set. As long as the cattle drive gets through the gates.
Happy Trails

I was under the impression that these people have explosive detection gear and the scanners are for identifying knives, guns etc. Laptop or a digital camera should be a cake to check, or am I oversimplifying?
Having read how most of the 911 terrorists were known and yet allowed to enter the US leads me to the conclusion that the problem is not at the boarding gate :-(

Well the problem is to effectively check them (if we're talking a physical check) you actually have to open the things up. Which means you've got to get a tech in (otherwise you'll probably fry the circuits). And then there's the task of putting it back together, which usually doesn't quite come off with digital cameras.

Laptops aren't so bad (as they're designed to be taken apart for repairs. Still, you touch the innards without an anti-static wristband (which cost bugger all) and there's a decent chance you'll fry the circuits.

No drive, no hard disk. This sounds like a witch hunt.
So the agents thought that the "terrorists" would make a box that looks like a laptop and hide a bomb in it ? :)

The range of arguments where they could hide something is without bounds. But in the end there must be explosives to make the thing go BOOM, so is there no way to sniff this quickly and efficiently? Is a look inside really necessary?

Not being an expert I have no idea, but my suspicion is that whatever the boys in Pakistan or Afghanistan have it should be possible to find it much quicker than this dog and pony show would imply. In other words I think it is more a show to make everyone think, see we are working. Otherwise spending those billions would seem outrageous.

lessons:
Don't take anything new, different, or unusual through airport security. Ship it UPS red instead.

Don't ever give TSA anything to look at. You really don't want to get on their watch list. If you do, you'd best just give up air travel.
Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.
