Pret -- A guy has 2 rural properties, one 9 and one 5 acres, both with houses and some half-empty sheds/barns/garages/ets . His daughter moves somewhere from somewhere, he helpes out with the move and rent a storage for her 10 boxes and a baby piano and a few chairs. $40-50 a month is the rent, and he pays it for over 6 years by now. Piano and chairs went somewhere over a year ago, so there are 10 boxes left, he agreed long, long time ago that its not a good idea to pay for that but he keeps paying, and paying, and paying. He is not rich at all.
ILP -- I've seen worse, how about someone on Section 8, so pays about $350 for a $1000+ a month apartment, makes near min. wage and rides a bike so is NOT rich. However, they keep 2 storages, pay another $350 a month for those, and the stuff inside is shit. Pays month after month after month. Oh, and her apartment is huge, she could store the shit in there or at least do some sorting and sifting and keep the non-shit, toss a lot of useless stuff. A lot of Americans are hoarders.
Pret --82 yo woman, with cancer in remission, who never leaves the house on her own/ browse internet keeps her credit card , ask her daughter to help her with that to make ocassional purchases, pay its bill ontime ets. Another creditscore nut?
ILP -- I've seen stuff like that, people who are very impressed with themselves for having a credit card, often one with a name like "gold" or "platinum" which is why so many have those names. They'd be better off w/o them but having one makes them think they are more "real".
Pret -- husband and wife, both in fifties, eat out 2-3 times a month, cook out 1-2 times a months, had never tasted lamb. Not that they dont want it for any reason, just never bought it/order it. Just didnt happen.
ILP -- America probably has the worst food and food attitudes on the planet.
Pret -- same couple goes to Mexican, Dominican and other Caribean resorts, and never leaves the resort itself. airport-resort-airport. And its not that they are despise/dislike/afraid of Mexicans/caribeans, no. Just doesnt happen. No interest.
ILP - They DO dispise anyone not nice and American and pink like them, but it's at such a deep, deep, level that consciously they don't feel that way. It's way underneath. It's just the old thing where anyone or more like any THING living outside the Empire is not really human and probably carries germs......
Pret --A family has a project to install new carpets. A carpet -seller comes for an estimate, gives an outrageous quote he calculates mysteriously in his own secret way, and the quote is getting accepted on the spot. No bargaining, no second opinions ets. Main reason- -What if he will think that we think that he thinks to fool us? meantime the mother of the family explains to the seller what do they do, and where do they work, and what their present and non-present kids do, and where do they work, and how old are they, and where they went to school, and that their income should be put ( in carpet-seller's papers) a little bit higher, becouse there is someone else is living in the house too, ets, ets, ets.
ILP -- Yeah, that's weird. No shopping around, no dickering, no questioning. And acting like the carpet installer is a new neighbor they'll be living next door to for the next 20 years. Which they'll not. Theory: Since Americans hardly ever invite nonfamily to their house any more, maybe the installer being inside the house triggers some sort of "you're marrying into the family" response.
Pret -- An American woman ( college educated), happened to be in the company of 3 foreigners , discovers that each of three foreigners knows more about American History than she does. Meantime, none of the three foreigners has a particulat interest in American History and none has any relation to the history field in general.
ILP - Americans are ignorant and they are PROUD of it. Un-Americans have to understand the Empire because well, as they say, know the enemy. If a huge evil elephant is about at any time to step on your house, you will get very interested, at least at some level, in understanding the elephant's history and thinking. I, an American, was not taught about the Civil War, WW's I or II, in school. We were taught a bit about our Revolutionary War, but that was mainly just something about Paul Revere, no real explanation of why the British were coming.
