Sadly, as long as "the American way of life is non-negotiable", then the draft is inevitable.

Not gonna happen. Not over Iraq. This is a terrificly unpopular war, but most people are willing to ignore it because they don't have much at stake. Start drafting their kids and they will be doing a lot more than voting in public opinion polls. Remember Vietnam?

Yes, I was called a "baby killer" during Vietnam.
I agree that a draft could not happen to support Iraq. But I also think Iraq is just the opening act of the Resource Wars and I remember all the zany flag-waving that took place after 9/11. I believe the time will come when a draft will be reinstated and something surpassing 9/11 will have occurred to make the draft seem like a great idea to a majority of Americans.
That prediction does not make me happy. But I think it will happen. :(

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('TheTurtle', 'B')ut I also think Iraq is just the opening act of the Resource Wars

I sure wouldn't say that. The Resource Wars have been going on for thousands of years. Actually I think you could argue that all wars are fundamentally resource wars.

You are, as usual, correct. Let me rephrase that to say that I believe Iraq is just the opening act of Bushco's Resource Wars. Or maybe we should call them the Resource Wars to End All Resource Wars. That always adds a grand sense of purpose. :P

without something like 9/11 draft has no chance, that's for sure

resource war has been going on for years, not just to increase the wealth, good example is water in the middle east, you would have to narrow this further to make it a new era

as far as i see no new era just plain old competition and greed, with an exception that this time it might end with mushrooms in the sky and a bunch of radioactive stuff around us

Luckily for me (at 17), the army would take one look at my vision score (20/480), and that I suffer from red-green colorblindness and point me to the exit.

I vote for Impeach Bush/Cheney first, which has a far higher possibility of Congressional approval than this.

Get real guys! A Democratic controlled House and Senate? There is NO WAY they are going to approve a return to conscription! They are already taking heat for not turning off the $ flow for this war now.

Imagine for a moment just one small nuke being detonated inside the green zone...

I will leave the rest to your imagination...

Now go back to sleep
It is easier to enslave a people that wish to remain free then it is to free a people who wish to remain enslaved.

Mideast War = Resource War / Draft = Slavery

Unread postby directinfo » Sat 11 Aug 2007, 12:47:03

The Mideast War is a Naked and instigatged resource war that "will not end in our lifetimes" - according to our leaders.

And now they want a draft.

A draft by America would be the same as slavery for globalist resource acquisition.

Bush War Adviser Says Draft Worth a Look

WASHINGTON (AP) - Frequent tours for U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan have stressed the all-volunteer force and made it worth considering a return to a military draft, President Bush's new war adviser said Friday.
"I think it makes sense to certainly consider it," Army Lt. Gen. Douglas Lute said in an interview with National Public Radio's "All Things Considered."

"And I can tell you, this has always been an option on the table. But ultimately, this is a policy matter between meeting the demands for the nation's security by one means or another," Lute added in his first interview since he was confirmed by the Senate in June.

President Nixon abolished the draft in 1973. Restoring it, Lute said, would be a "major policy shift" and Bush has made it clear that he doesn't think it's necessary.

The repeated deployments affect not only the troops but their families, who can influence whether a service member decides to stay in the military, Lute said.

"There's both a personal dimension of this, where this kind of stress plays out across dinner tables and in living room conversations within these families," he said. "And ultimately, the health of the all- volunteer force is going to rest on those sorts of personal family decisions."

The military conducted a draft during the Civil War and both world wars and between 1948 and 1973. The Selective Service System, re- established in 1980, maintains a registry of 18-year-old men.

Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., has called for reinstating the draft as a way to end the Iraq war.

Bush picked Lute in mid-May as a deputy national security adviser with responsibility for ensuring efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan are coordinated with policymakers in Washington. Lute, an active-duty general, was chosen after several retired generals turned down the job.

You Bolsheviks have been lying about the draft for 8 years now. What makes you think you aren't retarded?

As far as slaves go that's Africa's fault. America abolished slaves in the 1860s. Africa still has slaves.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070809/ap_ ... ia_slavery

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'N')OUAKCHOTT, Mauritania - Mauritania has passed a law promising jail time for slave-holders, an important step in the northwest African country's push to eliminate a practice that has quietly persisted despite a 25-year-old ban.

The law, adopted unanimously late Wednesday by the legislature, calls for prison sentences of up to 10 years for people found keeping slaves, along with fines for slave-holders and reparations for those who have been enslaved.

Human rights campaigners praised the law as a signal that a long-awaited cultural shift might finally be taking hold in Mauritania, where slavery has existed for hundreds of years and is ensconced in traditional proverbs, songs and poems.

Democrats will not save us, in fact:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'R')ep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., has called for reinstating the draft as a way to end the Iraq war.

That bastard from MY state wants it. I live in a blue state, and I can tell you Democrats are scoundrels and jackasses, just like Republicans. They'll both send your kid off to die or watch his friend get sniped in front of a market stand while theirs stays home, carving the Thanksgiving turkey.
If you have daughters, don't think you are in the clearing. When they reject half (or more) of the male population due to weight, eyes, feet, etc (which would knock me off combat duty atleast) they will come for your daughters.
Of course, having a huge, freshly conscripted army drawn up in Iraq will indeed be a stroke of fortune (as the politicians will tell us) when Iran chooses to strike us. If that be the case, the stream of yuppie gore will run down the Zagros mountains into the sea.
I would rather do Catholic chaplain duty...as soldiers tend to be God's most forsaken children. (Think of it, the government doesn't give a damn about you, the people in America think you are gun nuts foaming from the jowls etc).

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '1'). If they want to be in, who the hell am I to stop them? They know the risks. Probably better than the guys.

I am not convinced recruiters tell new blood that the DOD has radiated Iraq with DU and that there is a high likelihood of anyone coming back with radiation poisioning...that they will infect their wives and girlfriends and that any offspring is likely to be mutated.

Recruiters lie like politicians. As long as you sign on the line they could care less what they have told (or not told) you what the real risks are.

They tell High Schoolers how they won't go to war. If you are 18, sign up for the military, and expect to lounge around in Germany when a full blwon war is going on, you are a moron.
