LOL, I think I'll watch Titanic again. You know as well as I do that the music is nice.

My kids are both geniuses. I have a decent job with a future. I own my house and property outright. My garden and fruit trees are doing awesome, even with me out of town all summer 'working' in Europe. I am having alot of fun playing a computer game that never ends.

I am very happy almost constantly...

Very interesting poll. Things always seem to be so gloom and doom in here.

Does your life come complete with "My Child is an Honor Student at [insert school here]"?

Congratulations, your children are the top performing sheep in the school flock. Congratulations, you have a job, possibly working for someone else. Congratulations, you think you own your house; make sure to pay property taxes. Congratulations, you have a garden; I hope it is big enough to be converted into a tool of sustenance if necessary. Congratulations, you spent jet fuel to go to Europe. Congratulations on having some "uber" character on an MMORPG (which burns up electricity and fossil fuels).

Yes, I am cynical.

If you are happy, you've either (1) fully abandoned the world for God or (2) not paying close attention.

I am working on (1).

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Baldwin', 'Y')es, I am cynical.

Just a little bit.

Being willfully ignorant is not happiness. Not really. People living a lie generally know it and if you know you're living a lie you can't be truly, truly happy.

Just my opinion. But when I accept all that is to the best of my ability, don't close my eyes to it but make a plan, knowing things could go wrong but damnit, at least I'm doing something. Then I'm generally alot happier than if I'm just kicking back killing time with a mindless pursuit.

I think what most people consider happiness is really not all that great. I may be uncomfortably, irritable (though I'm friendly in person and do not let this show) and often disatisfied feeling, I do appreciate life, I try even to appreciate my pain and issues for they help me grow. When I'm really happy I feel really damn good. I don't try to block out the static in the background or forget I have a long way to go, I try to just be happy with the present moment, for where I am. I see my mind spinning hopeful dreams (that never quite go according to plan) about the future and I accept that too.

Intensity of emotion is IMO, more important than some base level of happiness which is really just a couple steps over boredom and a few more above loneliness and ultimately desperation.

I've gone thru many years of severe depression and will never go back. This alone makes even my unhappy moments appreciatable.

I like the Zen philosophy. See the perfection is everything.

I am happy when I am outside with a chainsaw converting an area of shrub into a working orchard. Of course work requires that I sit at a table all night... luckily I get to bring a laptop.

I am happy when I am working, doing, accomplishing. I am happy when the biggest compliment I can give my 3 year old son is that he is a hard worker. I am happy that some plans for po are coming to completion but realize that there is much more to do.

I am, largely, content but it is a reaction to my own movement not the surroundings that I find myself in.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'M')y kids are both geniuses.

That's great hoss. Mine aren't but they are moving. They are getting things done. They are learning to solve problems. They are learning to love. I cannot help but ask, "Would you be less happy if they were idiots?" Would you love them less? Would they love you less?

I.Q. is great, I guess, but what is vital is character. There were plenty of high I.Q. Nazis (and probably still are) so I wouldn't let that be the thing that makes you happy about your kids.

You guys don't know what he meant by "geniuses".

Maybe they're geniuses at figuring out how to get things done. Maybe they are geniuses at compassion. Maybe they surprise him constantly with their insights into what is important in life.

No matter what he means any reason to be proud of your kids is a good one, as far as I'm concerned. As long as it's genuine and you don't love them for it but are happy for them that just a trait is part of their character or that they are capable of a certain accomplishment (rather than being proud only because they accomplished it).

cur, I feel the best when I'm moving too. The worst feeling to me right now is stagnation. "This is neither the time nor the place" for that.

Maybe maybe not. Until he/she responds I think we should take it at face value, assuming he meant what he said in the meantime.

I really like this quote, by the way.

"I am, largely, content but it is a reaction to my own movement not the surroundings that I find myself in."

I'd like to nominate it to be one of the "member quotes" on the left side on the forum, with your permission.
