The Matrix Reference Three Strikes Rule

Unread postby jesus_of_suburbia_old » Wed 12 Jan 2005, 13:49:52

This probably should be in the suggestion forum, but it is more of a rant than anything.

Beginning next week, I propose that all Matrix references used to describe one's personal peak oil acceptance or awareness be banned from this board. They are grossly overused and often tied to some of the dumbest experiences. These include, but are not limited to, "I decided to take the red pill and..." and/or "Who knows what lies down the rabbit hole?" (even if it is used as a Alice in Wonderland reference). Please, either think of something original or less frequently used.

The Matrix Reference Three Strikes Rule

Strike One: A warning in the form of a private message from a moderator or administrator to the offender.

Strike Two: A repeated use of a Matrix reference results in a one week suspension of offender posting privleges.

Strike Three: Yet another use of a Matrix reference results in the deletion of the offender's account.

Similar rules should be enacted for use of the Einstien "World War III/IV" quote.

Thank You

Jesus. What a mind job!

While we're at it, can we also do away with:

1) abiotic oil

2) importing methane directly from Jupiter

3) abortion threads

4) anything that violates any law of thermodynamics

Of course, that would reduce activity a lot.... 8)

Most did panic, as the Titanic sank, while others played Mozart, and comforted loved ones.
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

I love the matrix references.
Oh and that kind of future might happen if our way of life is not negotiable and we prefer to abadon reality in order to keep our way of life non negotiable.

Since matrix is just an illusion a simple puse of a button would be enough to recharge our oil supply.

While I realize this was more of a rant than a serious proposal, it always amazes me how some just don't like the necessary pitfalls of free and open discussion (read: free spech), and wish to limit and curtail the ideas of others. Just because continued references become trite, ideas seem outlandish or assinine, or arguments unjustified, means that you feel you or others should have the power to control that? Ideas, expositions, and references rise or fall in due course upon their merit, as truth needs that continually fearless sifting and winnowing..

If ideas or these references offend you, and you cannot handle them, frankly get out of the kitchen. Your inability to repress your desire for control of others, or your impatience at executing rational rebuttals is no better.

Or I might just have a low tolerance for dumbasses. :P If there's enough enlightened conversation here for me to stay and ignore the moronic 911 conspiracy nonsense, then others can ignore the matrix references and {insert annoying theme here}.$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'M')ost did panic, as the Titanic sank, while others played Mozart, and comforted loved ones.

turning this board into a fascistic nanny is hardly the way to deal with such a trite annoyance

all the things you suggest can be accomplished by judicious use of your ignore button. take matters into your own hands with the tools provided and stop bothering the moderators with stupid crap like this, they have enough work to do.

Wow. I thought this would be a funny little rant. Thanks to those of you who didn't look for a non-existent, deeper meaning.

Guest, are you a fan of Richard Jeni? Who is he? He is a hack comedian whose act hasn't evolved beyond toilet seat, men's infatuation with breasts and PMS jokes. HBO is giving him a one hour special. You should check it out. Then again, I just made a suggestion, which you will probably preceive as my attempt to control you.

sampo, have you ever thought about loosening your sphincter[smilie=5butthead.gif] . The bug up your ass is having a tough time breathing.

1) most of my friends are matrix haters, and i love the matrix movies...i even loved the third one! so forgive me if im sensitive to the topic.

2) i am already having a piss poor day at work and probably took your post a tad too seriously

3) as a gay man, i bet i can loosen my sphincter ALOT more than you...although i've never put any insects in there myself, there is a chance one or two could have snuck in....needless to say i don't give a shit if they suffocate. (does that count as a pun?)

ugh, why did i type that...

ugh, why am i hitting the "submit" button

if we institute a 3 strike rule, i reserve the right to use each of the forbidden expressions at least once, since i have not used them at all yet.

for instance, i was just thinking today that i feel like i took the red pill. or maybe the blue pill. i can't remember which was which anymore. but this time doesn't count because i'm just making a point.

also, i have used the "rabbit hole" analogy outside of matrix-related metaphors. therefore i reserve the right to use it without concerns about copyright infringement. besides, it's really lewis carroll's imagery anyway. i'm pretty sure his work is public domain.

You're supposed to take the Purple Pill, Nexium, which is what all the trendy people are taking these days. Then you can skip happily through a cartoony landscape holding hands with a talking giant Purple Pill, just like they do in the commercials.

Personally I like the feistiness and the weird crap that comes along from time to time. This is liberty and equality in action, it's one of the things we value most in the world-at-large. I've even been at the receiving end of a decent amount of sometimes vicious ad-hominem attacks (as a gay man standing up for the uniform right to legal monogamy) but never called for censoring the guilties.

The only place where I'd draw the line is incitement to commit crimes of force or fraud, which include terrorism and banditry by definition; subject to the traditional "clear & present danger" standard.

It'll mean absolutely nothing to you, but I thought of my matrix reference to peak oil well before having seen it anywhere else, and before I ever visited peakoil.com. As a matter of a fact, I thought of it right after having read Matt Savinar's book, which was my first major intro to Peak Oil. It may be unoriginal to the group, but it was original to me.

So, here's my rant about people who ... ah, nah, it isn't worth it.

Signature attached especially for you.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PhilBiker', 'O')r I might just have a low tolerance for dumbasses. :P

If you can't tolerate a few dumbasses, you're going to find yourself very very lonely in the world. If everyone was as enlightened and as informed as you, we wouldn't have a problem would we? Everyone would have figured this peak oil thing out already and come up with a solution. For a hint of where intollerance of dumbasses leads, check out the American Communist party. It has now splintered off into about thirty parties each of which consists of three guys who publish a newspaper and then sit around drinking coffee and talking about how they are the only true revolutionaries and everyone else is so stupid and is a pawn of the capitalist system.
