Disturbingly interesting idea I had-

What if we took Toxoplasma gondii, genetically modified it to stop producing dopamine, and made it start producing glutamate and GABA, so that it would increase intelligence, modified it to eat viruses, so that viruses floating around would become a food source, modified it to produce nutrients that are bodies needed, but couldn't synthesize due to lack of machinery(things like vitamin C, which can be made from sugar if you have the right cellular machinery), produce trophic factors to extend our lifespans and induce growth/regeneration, and produce antibiotics to kill off bacteria.

The end result would be we would have something that benefited us, that was sexual transmitted, that would eliminate alot of these nasty viruses, would actually help us instead of hurting us, and would take care of alot of our problems.

Think of a Gould Symbiote from Stargate. It would sort of be the same thing, except much, much smaller.

What do you think?

Sexually transmitted? I thought it came from contact with cat shit? What actual acts compose "sex" as you understand it? Wait, I don't want to know..... 8O

You now have two posts on the front page here both of which describe genetic engineering at a level way way above what we can currently accomplish. Besides you know how these things go. Something will go wrong and we'll wish we had never done it.
shame on us, doomed from the start

Why don't we modify one of these things to drop the sperm count in male humans by about 80% unless the human in question takes some kind of medication to overcome the engineered virus?

All the better if it's also a sexual enhancer of sufficient intensity as to be practically addictive from the very first dose.

May be we should rather build a Stargate?
That would be cool.

This reminds me of my nephew. He will bring a book about dinosaurs over to show me and then say;

"Uncle Neal, what would it be like if you met a half dinosaur half robot?"

Meeting a dinosaur alone just isnt good enough for my nephew :) I guess for some people evolution just isnt good enough ever.
