The real problem would be if the dollar were to take a big one against the Yen. The important action (for the neocons) is in Asia.
When it comes down to it, the people will always shout, "Free Barabbas." They love Barabbas. He's one of them. He has the same dreams. He does what they wish they could do. That other guy is more removed, more inscrutable. He makes them think. "Crucify him."

Just like the romans carving gold coins...the fed will drop rates and a loaf of bread will cost $500.

I believe it is called "clipping".

I am still waiting for a market crash. It did lose 100 points so far today.

That would be outstanding. I'm all for that. Bye Bye student loans.

Every cloud has a silver lining. A few people even made money out of the hyperinflation in Zimbabwe.

So how far can the USD fall relative to other fiat currencies?

When would you consider it oversold?

well it's a piece of paper backed up by the promises of a terminally in debt country that shows no interest in correcting the situation. If it wasn't the world's choice of currency it would be an easy prediction to say the bottom is at it being worth nothing at all. Being that it's still important as the petrodollar it's anyone's call

Falling from 81.45 to 80.75 is hardly a plunge.

Heck, that's not even a full percentage point move for the US Dollar.

And the Market "tanked" a mere 1.06%

I have to agree with that.

I have been waiting for the wheels to come off, this is not it.

call me when the dow loses 500 and then 600 hundred the next day and I will get excited.

There is some interesting stuff a foot right now though. Everything now seems to be driven by stock buy backs and mergers. The big wigs are keeping things a float through the still cheap money supply.

Let them start by trying to liquidate US tanks and bombs. The US is still the sole superpower for the moment, which will continue to prop up the dollar value.

So Tyler - this "small" drop in the yen carry is no big deal eh?

When the yen "tanks" then and so will the dollar "tank".

The news coverage has been pretty amusing, as there's one story about how "the Euro rose to a new high against the dollar", then another story about how "the Candian dollar rose to a new high against the dollar", then about how "the British Pound rose to a new high against the dollar" with the accompanying explanation about how the economy in (insert country here) is so strong that their currency is rapidly becoming more valuable.

Haven't yet heard a story about how "the dollar fell to a new low".

Writing that in a news article would be a good way to have an "accident" or get "disappeared".

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'Y')esterday, the pound and the euro hit their highest levels in a generation against the US dollar. The dollar, meanwhile, collapsed to a record low against an average of all the world’s major currencies. It is tempting to interpret the flight from the dollar in financial markets as the clearest, most objective, indicator of America’s relative decline.

80 has supplied pretty strong resistance on the dollar index. If (and this is a BIG if) we see a breach, say, this week or next, then I've seen it predicted by a number of non tin foilers that BB will intervene immediately with as much as a 50bp hike, even if that guarantees an acknowledged recession shortly down the road. It probably won't breach the 80 barrier, but I'm gonna have fun watching it teeter on the brink.
