Jack's post was pretty much spot on in my opinion.

My most valued MSM news source is BBC. I check my "latest headlines" bookmark daily (firefox ftw!), and I know that if something major has happened, BBC will notice it. It is also the only 24 hour news channel I can access that I find watchable in the least. I get CNN and Fox too. Fox need not be mentioned, and CNN, though it's the "world edition" with the American slant toned down, is just painful silly fluffiness in my opinion. I'm seriously thinking about a trial subscription to al-Jazeera. Like the BBC, they're not really slaves to a profit motive (not like CNN anyway) and have a reputation for actually doing investigative reporting in parts of the world that interest me. MSM has a place to fill in my information gathering process. But I only trust them so far.

Jack, like Noam Chomsky (!!!) point out the ever present slant in reporting. Mostly it's lying by omission, and consistently reporting all news within a rigid framework of accepted notions (pro-government/business/status quo etc.)
Stories that challenge these rigid notions aren't reported at all, or are purposefully marginalized. As someone who recognizes that status quo is utterly unsustainable and immoral to boot, I find MSM to be something of a tool of the enemy. It's a soothing voice helping to keep the sheeple sleeping. We all need to wake up, and MSM will never broadcast the needed alarm signal.

Living in Budapest, I get 2 English language channels, CNN International and BBC International. I speak Hungarian pretty well but after a hard day I like to find out what is going on in the world without thinking!!

I turned on CNN today and saw their headline "IEA asks OPEC to increse production" Hmmmmm, i though, lets see what they have to say.

After 2 mins of footage of men on rigs and barrels of oil moving on conveyor belts and refering to OPEC with no real information, they say the following........"Higher prices are what some countries actually want, such as IRAN and VENEZUELA"...........WTF!!

Where was the Saudi comments that " oil in the $60 range is good for us" AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!

I thought that CNN was not like Faux News and were at least a little, teeny tiny bit objective.

Is anyone else sick of the lies or is it just another thing that i need to come to terms with when dealing with PO?

Sorry for the rant but after coming to terms with this situation it is really starting to get on my nerves when i see such blatant 'kutyaszar'*on the tv.

Yup learn to deal with the lies and the misleading stories that are not worth squat. And if God for bid if they do say oil is in decline steady yourself for the follow on story about how great corn ethanol is.

I still contend that peak oil will not be aired as a serious subject by the MSM.

We may start seeing the odd article, the odd documentary about peak oil theory but this will soon be followed by articles, documentaries about new fuels, terrorists, evildoers denying us the good stuff. Basically what Eli said.

The usual formula for balance in reporting, have someone tell the truth for 10 minutes then have someone tell lies for 10 minutes.

I may be a cynic, but big brother is on tv in the hotel bar, even more popular than eurosport

I will just have to learn that it is the way that the world will deal with PO, "blame the communists" damn them for their wanting everyone to have a say in things? (i think i have lived in Bp fpr too long)
