$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('untothislast', 'T')he global mindset is currently one which evaluates every action and aspiration against its potential for success in the quest for wealth and economic growth. This, realistically, is the only yardstick by which any of the eventual policies concocted for dealing with the crises confronting us will be decided. The bulk of the avoidable problems closing in on us at present: climate change, PO, loss of biological diversity, desertification etc, ultimately have as their root cause, the prevalence of this shared cultural and philosophical sickness.

And as we're collectively unable to think outside of the paradigm - unable to contemplate any effective course of action which might (heaven forbid!) lead to someone, somewhere, failing to make some serious money out of the deal - we're essentially stuffed.

So--follow the money. I'd love to think that the best in human nature is expressing itself in the eco consciousness now observed in mainstream media. In truth, some of it is backed by the anti-carbon people, who promote global warming theory, not because it's true, but because they stand to make a fortune. You can't be too cynical when it comes to this sort of thing.

Damn right: Follow the money.

State's like the one in which I live see ethanol and biofuels as a potential income bonanza. At a time when farm revenues have been sagging. And we're getting lots of federal money to assist the startups.

It's all madness of course, but the politicians on both sides of the aisle love it.

Haven't you heard? The Midwest is going to be the new Middle East!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('AirlinePilot', 'Y')ou cannot make someone see a thing they dont want to see.

That's because humans are hard-wired to discount the future. There is no actual crisis affecting the oil supply today, (although prices are climbing, they are still acceptable), so business as usual continues unabated and immediate concerns take priority.
